I've often wondered how many guys have factory built paint booths, home made paint booths, screen doors and filters in thier garage door opening, etc. when they paint thier stuff at home. I've not painted in years, and when I did it was in a "non e.p.a. approved" driveway!!! and had some excellant results or at a buddies body shop in his paint booth. So guys...and gals, let's see your painting areas and if you feel like giving details that would be cool. If you have any tips for making a "home made" paint booth and care to share, please do.

I did try a search under "paint booth" and didn't find a thread like this...if one has already been started, please post a link and I'd be happy to follow it!!!

My dad and his friend painted their cars int he boiler room of a local laundry service. Layed out the paint and then cranked the boilers up, almost a baked on finish. More than 20 years later both cars still look amazing.
I've done a handfull of motorcycles in my garage. I set up a couple of squirrel cage fans to move the air, wet down the floor, and crack the garage door open a bit. someday I'll build a setup to hold some furnace filters and clean the air a bit better. Works for what I've been doing though.

I've shot them from driveways to garages, but a rented spray booth worked
    the best.

I thought everybody painted stuff in their driveway, we do. :D Usually by the light of the moon........or floodlights.

Years ago I learned not to spray stuff in the garage when the clothes dryer is running. My wife at the time had a load of white nurses uniforms that came out the same shade of purple I was painting my car. Who knew dryers sucked in air ??? I have no idea why that woman left me .

I paint in my garage, clean the crap out of the floor, tarp off the back two stalls, furnace filters in the windows and a box fan for exhaust. I painted my 60 T-Bird 9-21-2011, and still got dust in the paint, had to color sand and buff it. The important thing is to get everything as clean as possible.

Here is my car all done in my garage i did all the blocking but none of the paint .I did pay a guy that knows how to spray car come out great all i did was used my grage as a paint booth walls of clear plastic film with a pair of ac units in the windows. And a fan on the floor to pull out air also used filters over the ac units to help pull out dust .My painter said it worked better then many booths he has painted there was almost no dirt spots in clear to sand out.

  10. I have a 12 x 24 frame made out of 1" conduit suspended from the ceiling with 4 1/8" cables in a splayed configuration to prevent swinging. The cables go thru pillows and an electric hoist raises and lowers the frame. The frame is covered in 7 mill plastic. The plastic is dropped to the floor when painting and weighted down. At the floor its spread out to about 18x30. Spring clamps hold the corners together when in use or hold the plastic up when stowed. Few well placed clamps along the walls. Large fan with chute and furnace filters to draw air out. Two sets of filters to let air in. Works like a champ if you paint with the draw of air. Go the other way and you get real good at wet sanding.

When not in use, lower hoist, roll up plastic, clip to frame and haul the whole thing up into the rafters.

My garage is my current "booth".....
But it's tight and I'm getting tired of "sheeting" it to cover up all my knick-knacks on my walls...haha.

My paint booth is also my beer drinking area...I use furnace filters in front of the fans and shut the door. I also sort of try to do this when the neighbours aren't home, if you know what I mean...

    Here is the finished product.

This worked well enough for a one shot deal on my off-topic project.

Fan in one window facing out, A/C filters over the other two. On actual paint days I rolled the toolboxes outside and wet the floor down with a garden sprayer.

Later I added lights on all the walls, the ventilation didn't really work that well and it would fog up pretty quickly.

I've done 3 cars outside. Little tip to anyone it to wet down the floor, dirt, graval, pavement or wherever your painting just so nothing can fly up into the paint job

Back yard, wet down the gravel, made wooden frames with plastic stapled to it to keep bird shit and leaves off the paint. Looked at the date on the back June 1991, I've got to finish this project some day.

  28. I walled off a room in an old pole building I use for a shop. Added an exhaust fan and lights, between paint jobs I use it to store what ever the next project is.

I dont have any pictures, and Im new to painting, but my first frame paint job on an off topic truck was done in my garage like many of you guys. Plastic up over everything and I went to town.

Some of your guys's at home paint jobs look AWESOME by the way, I had to comment in here that you guys produce some really killer jobs at home, true DIY style, I love it.
