I don't know where else to post this. Maybe we need a help wanted section on here. I asked Ryan, but got no answer, so hopefully this will fly here.

I am trying the HAMB first because I want a CAR GUY (or gal) for the position! If it doesn't work here I'll try Craigslist and Monster, but I'd sure rather have one of you guys working for me.

The short and sweet of the position is that includes a lot of ad production, but production of ads that you created the master for. We roll out the same ad style all year for all of the events, so you would be plugging new info and photos into the template that you created. That includes online ads. Other stuff includes design and production of posters, postcards, ticked, window stickers etc. Everything you see printed that is related to Goodguys is designed in-house.

Depending upon your skills you would also be working on logos, decals, signage etc.

On top of that stuff the ideal candidate can help with magazine layout and magazine cover design.

Pay is good, but probably not worth you bringing the wife and kids from New Jersey for. $40k-$50 depending on abilities and experience.

The best part is that you get to work for me. :D Kidding aside, it's a great company to work for and I run a very happy department based on trust and respect.

    The official ad...

    Graphic Artist/Production

Our Pleasanton, CA based automotive entertainment company is seeking a full-time Graphic Artist/Production professional with excellent design skills and use of color.

The position offered is mainly production based but with growing creative design opportunities. A minimum of three years of full-time experience in the graphics field is required. Candidates must be able to exhibit good design skills on company collateral projects such as flyers, mailers, ads (print & digital), posters and other special projects within the existing designated design parameters. Candidate must be detail oriented, possess good communication and organizational skills as well as have the ability to handle multiple jobs simultaneously while working with various internal and external clients. Ideal candidate knows that good production work takes a good designer. Knowledge of the four-color printing process is a must. Magazine layout, html, Mac troubleshooting, photography skills and knowledge of vintage American cars are a plus.

Thorough knowledge of the following software on the Mac is a must: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.

Pleasant and optimistic attitudes only! We have built a very strong design TEAM and are looking for a candidate that can be an integral part of the department.

Email resume, cover letter and samples of your work to: editor@good-guys.com - include "Graphics Position" in subject line.

Email questions to the same address above or PM me here.

Would this position be on-site in California or is there any opportunity to work remotely?

Unfortunately I'll be looking for a job soon, but I haven't worked with indesign or acrobat. I'd love the job though! I'll send you something.

My wife could do this job, no problem. More than 25 years experience. Not strictly a car gal, she's a heck of a graphic designer though. Too bad the commute would be a killer. Lemme know if you need some remote freelance work. She's been known to do a little of that. I could put in a good word. :D

Seems like a rad entry level position for someone to get a foot in the door. In this economy I'm sure you'll have a ton of qualified people step up for the job.

40-50K is definitely not a salary to relocate to California for. However if the job was a freelance/remote opportunity I would definitely be interested. Sounds like a dream job I'm actually qualified for being an Art Director of a Publishing company!

I'd do it from home, but I don't have the professional experience. Lord knows, I have the old car fetish! I could learn the software quick enough, but the commute would be killer! :D

Do you use freelancers? If so I would be interested.

Not if you want to live anywhere near the water, or south of LA, or in a area without gunfire.

On topic, my sister in law will send her resume in tomorrow. She has a BA in FA and working on MBA/MFA. Has run production and design work for a few surf companies, outsource clothing and artwork to china/India and most important she is local. Plus you get to have a 26 year old surfing blond at the office.

If you're comfortable with the rest of the Adobe suite you'll pick up inDesign. Grab a copy and dig in, if you're gonna stay with print design you'll need to know it.

With the geographic economics in Calif., I believe the avg. of $45K being between poverty level and minimum wage. $23.44 per hr. (based on 40 hr. wk.) is generous anywhere else but Calif., will there be a relocation allowance?, temp. housing accomadations? I would love to do the job but it would take a lot to get my arse outta "Mayberry". Can you do a breakdown on benefits? i.e. medical, 401K, COLA's? Thanks!

True. The way Adobe is going InDesign will eventually absorb Photoshop and Illustrator.

As for the "can you live in California for $40-$50k?" The guy who vacated the position (one of my best friends who was offered a life changing gig for Google and Apple) lived just fine on the low end of that scale. He is single with no kids though.

WOW! This would be an awesome opportunity for someone. I would be qualified for the job but couldn't afford to relocate from TN.

As far as learning InDesign. Simple, simple, simple if you can manipulate Illustrator. In some instances lately, I have used InDesign to draw any vector images I need for a layout in InDesign just to keep it native.

I'm holding out for the position of G.G.'s personal physician. If M.J. can have his own Doc. then why can't Kirk? And, I do know how to use Propofol safely.
