ok.. I am working on a 50 lincoln.. (same front and rear suspension as a merc)

I want to put it in the weeds.. BUT i dont want to put air ride on this one..

I saw WHEELS1950's merc a few days ago. and he had spacers between the lower spring pocket and the control arm. (this I can do)

however I am also thinking that a quick cut coil might be nice..

what other options do I have?

I am thinking I'll keep the stock sus*****on up front..
    thanks sawzall

I have the 1-1/2" spacers and Fatman dropped spindles on the front of my Merc. Dropped it about 5". Rear has Posies slider springs and 3" blocks for 5". You can get a pack of cigarrettes under the side pipes sideways but not upright. Don't think I'd want to drive one much lower than that. First place it drags are the bottoms of the caps on the sidepipes.

4" blocks in the back 11/2 coils up front. Also, flip the shackles in rear (an old trick). Mine sits pretty low although it can never be too low.:) -stick

I had done mine in two stages. First stage was economical, no bags. I had cut coils and a arm spacers in the front. 4" blocks in the back. With this setup I had to raise the driveshaft tunnel already. You will get some occasional bottoming out in the front end (i.e. the lower a arm will hit the frame).

In the second stage I went back to almost stock springs in front with dropped spindles. No bottoming out whatsoever, really nice ride. I removed half the rear spring leafs. I then added the small bag over spring setup.

Anybody else ? Has somebody on here ever used 4" Jamco springs in combination with 4" lowering blocks for an 8" total drop ? What about some pics to get an idea of the stance ?

Mine's a driver so its only about 3 inches lower than stock. The old Butches Rod Shop had a whole suspension kit.Front and rear lowering blocks, springs, shocks ect. I just bought the springs and shocks and I really like the ride.

I used those front A arm spacers and had shorter springs made- Cut springs always ride ****py on a heavy car. For the rear I used 4 " blocks and de-arched springs.

Let the air out of the tires. Its a simple trick that works. Drops the car a few inches. Then, when you're ready to drive again, put air back in the tires. Works like a charm. Hope that helps you Mr. Sawzall.

Fatman spindles, stock original coils for a total of about 4". Rear, Posies springs plus 2" blocks. The frame has been 'C'd and the drive shaft tunnel raised.:) :D

Like Dave already asked,a side shot would be nice.According to the info from Fatman the spindles/uprights will give a drop of 2 1/2".How come you have a drop of 4" ? Thanks.

The extra drop is because the original springs are sagged 1 1/2". :) :D

I'll check with your ol' Posies co-worker Rich Shores. He built this 50 Lincoln for his grandfather back in 1993. See if I can find out about the suspension.

Back in the good 'ol days (the 50's) they always said that if you could get a pack of cigarettes upright under the lakes pipes it was ok to drive. If you had to turn the pack sideways it was too low. Picture attached using Marlboro Lights box.

If you are interested, I can show you how this will look on a slighty later model ('53) Mercury in a few days. I have just that prescription(4" drop springs, 4" blocks) going onto my car here soon. I'm getting a c-notch cut this thursday, and hopefully pics on Friday.
