For a movie car, it fits, a combination of Duzy and command car, but I think the tail lights need some chrome; they are just too modern looking.

    More Misc.

Tidied up the chassis tightening linkage bolts, hooking up the gas line, brake line and fuel pump. Then I touched up the platform by painting all the exposed wood and scratches. the ebrake is next then install the platform.

Jerry... Did you ever figure out how to fix the two cylinders that were running rich (based on the color of your exhaust pipes)?

Actually it turned out to be a lean problem. A new carb fixed it.

Spent more time tightening and fastening. Also painting nuts and washers. Not much to see. Tomorrow I need to bleed the brakes and put a base coat on the wood sills under the hood.

It's taken me 3 days to go through this thread. Jerry, what you have done here is nothing short of amazing. To take an old fire truck that was sitting exposed for years and turn it into something like this must hold a great deal of satisfaction. I am speechless. What was it like hearing that big 'ole T head 6 fire up for the first time in decades?

    Platform

Got the brakes bled. Painted and tightened more bolts. Painted the wood sills. Put on the platform just to see what it looked like. Looks good. Next install the body, drill holes, adjust, tweak. Take it back off and paint. That's the president of Chow Trailers in the background.

Thanks for all compliments and encouragements. If it weren't for this thread my progress would be a lot slower.

    Thunk

I went to the shop, sat in a chair, ate a Subway coldcut sandwich ($2.00 on sale), drank a McDonald's large sweet tea ($1.00 all the time) and thunk about my running board set up. It's so far from the ground up to the door I think I need a running board, a step above that and another smaller step to get in to the passenger's compartment. Maybe a handrail too.

A Skyway, like they use at the airports, would be better. Then you could heat the skyway and keep your passengers warm during the boarding process. With your fabricating skills the skyway should only add a couple of days to the project.

  17. my thoughts exactly when i read your post

or have stool/step like a passenger train woud use it could even double as a tool box add a chain and it becomes a parking chock or anchor

some older ford vans had a step that popped out when the door was opened and hid away when shut
set brake handle ..... steps fall out release brake and steps fold up

maybe just some stirrups from a saddle or a groinacolagistts table

hmmm where high heels or more like gang plank would work

    ahemmmm fire truck ladder sheeeeese

    cherry picker with cradle seat

too late for trap door and a rope ladder

ooooh ooooh i know go underslung its not too late

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:)

A stairclimber might be a good idea then!! [IMG]

I did see, somewhere, that there was a footstool type of thing that was attached underneath the runningboards of some speedsters-but I think Al Whatsisnames Disease got to my memory as to where I saw that...:rolleyes:

Amazing piece of machinery you got going there. I found a lot of inspiration in this thread...thanks!:)

    Running board hangers

I got this idea that the running board hangers should be on the outside of the frame rails. They were originally on the back side. The frame rail covers I made are kind of plain so this will break up the monotony a little. To do this I'll need some spacers. Luckily I found that 1/2-13 connector nuts are the perfect size. Add a piece of muffler pipe and viola! Now I have to cut off the original hangers--they had strut rods running through them--and add some stuff to support the running boards. Someone go by the Marta Station at Lenox in Atlanta. I was told Babyland has a bill board with me and my REO and the kids on it. Here's the picture. http://www.cabbagepatchkids.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/IMG_0572.jpg

I've seen step stools like that. Paperdog you're a font of creativity.

I left my camera at the Boy Scout meeting the other night. Luckily a Scout is trustworthy so I knew it was safe. The Scoutmaster brought it to me tonight. But I had to take these pictures with my phone. I was trying to get a handle on the exact height I needed for the steps. You can see my mockup. Not pretty, but effective. I think I'll use the same method Seagrave used to support the running boards--angle irons running under the chassis supported by the struts that hang from the chassis. The angle irons won't be that pretty but they'll be strong as hell. Plus no one will see them anyhow unless they crawl under the vehicle. The width of the top step will be 7 inches and the bottom around 8.

  28. Jerry- I like the idea of making a toolbox that unfolds into steps!

  29. somewhere in my head is the name(monk? )given to attic steps that are not like your trial they use a step for each foot in a staggered pattern .. so they work backwards from the tp... knowing how you want the last step placed work down accordingly
oh thanks for the kind word s

that box step thingie need not be a box to have steps in it a barrel , torpedo ,

remember to not grab the brake and other handles for support while trying the mock steps

good luck and i will give you my address in a pm if you are planning on picking me up xmas eve santa
