59apache, My dash is in pretty sad shape. all the paint has fallin off the glass, the speedo doesn't work, fuel guage doesn't work,,But oil and water do..I've been thinking about wether to try and restore it or just fill in the dash and install something else..like maybe two round 5" classic instrument gauges..I dont know yet..Thoughts?

    Keep it stock looking.

  8. I would get all the gauges working and paint the dash body color..basically keeping it stock looking.

To bad that it starts so hard, if you adjust it a bit more it won't need to crank so much before it starts.............. We need some shoots fom inside the car. Sounds pretty good also. Give you a thumbs up back.

Did you check out olddaddy of this forum? He sells disc brake conversions as well as splits intakes and exhausts.

PLEASE dont change the original gauges! This is always a complete turn off when I see a nice car with modern gauges. it completely ruins the feel IMO.
Congrats on your first drive. i love those cars.

Gotta agree on the gauges. If you really don't like the stockers, look at other 40s Mopar gauges. Swapping another vintage set would be much better than modern stuff. You can often find original gauges in good shape or have yours rebuilt too.
Someone posted this a while back for another ID question. It's a great resource for that and seeing the design and progress over the years.

Just a note on gauges here - I have my 1930s and 1940s stockers rebuilt and converted to modern internals. Classic Instruments can do it and so can these guys<cite>:

I have a 41 gauge set up if you want. Don't know if they all work or if it will fit. Let me know.

oooh oooh I know the answer to that one!!! (he lives close to me, but i'll let him answer it)

36dodgeram does have a pretty cool Plymouth and pretty knowledgeable on the old mopars, especially the drivetrain.

Speaking of that, when are you going to give me a ride 36dodgeram?:D:D:D

I restored this car in the early seventies, I could still find parts in junk yards back then. Then I added the dual fenton intake, split exaust, and .080 off the head. Drove even better! But it all eventually wore out, and I put a 350/350 combo and 4 wheel disc brakes in it in 1991. That was accepted then, not as much now. But fits the best and goes like hell! PM me for your needs, I have a lot of stock stuff I no longer use. But I'm keeping all the original drivetrain, just in case I get tired of driving fast and stopping good!:D

Do you have a link to an online photo album?

Only thing I really need is the filler panel that goes at the top of the grille shroud in front of the radiator. It keeps the air flow directed to the radiator..Mine is missing. Kind of triangular in shape. Looks easy enough to just make one. But hay if someone has a extra one. :)

On the 41 you just got, is it the one in your avatar pic? That is sweet, and the stance I'm looking for. Do you have a pic album?

Yeah speaking of that I need to do the same. I can't remember if yours has that 36dodgeram. If it does I am going to bring some beer and make a pattern! :D

    Okay my 40 Plymouth brothers....
So aparently these cars never had turn signals stock? My car has a afterthought added turn signal lever clamped to the steering column..So thats all well and good, but the only front lamp above the headlamp is a small flat glass lens with a tiny little mini single filiment bulb. That could be a running light or a turn signal, but not both..but I want both, I like running my park lights while I cruise around..
I'm currently working on and mapping out an idea and thought i would ask you guys what you have done... Pretty sure its gonna work great..But i often make things more difficult then they have to be..
In most cases like this you just add a dual filament 1157 socket and move on, but in this application the working space is very limited and no room in the lens housing for a 1157 bulb.
So what have you guys done on your cars to solve this?
I do not want to add a second light housing of any kind..

I suppose a 41 Plymouth brother can give you some thoughts as well.....Even though the top lens on the 41 is slightly larger, I'm planning on running the turn signal in there (orange bulb) and use the main headlight for the running lights. The area inside the top glass is just too small I think to run 2 bulbs. Another option for you could be to place the turn signals in the space below the headlight assembly. Perhaps visually a little less pleasing to the eye, but maybe worth a thought. Some modern car headlights also have the turn signal incorporated in the headlight as well. It would solve your problem but not sure if you want to go this route. If I think of something else, I'll let you know.:D

Do you think the tail light converter wont work, or just trying to figure a way to use a dual filament bulb to have the blinkers brighter than the running lights?
