    There it is !
If I'm not mistaken, this car had a Johnny Albright chassis, but I could be mistaken after all these years. Also if I recall correctly, it had a 392 when it won Bakersfield, but broke a rod and they put a 354 in it when it sailed off the end of Union Hill in 68'. A spectacular car for this region in Div II.

A lot of people tried to copy the original funny cars from down south. : )
Weird by some standards, but they worked off the line and just great until the 130 140 mph range came in sight, then some of them looked like canaries.

That's what Jim used to call one of his blown gas flat bottom boats " Ivory Hunter" You can contact Phyllis Ermshar, Dons wife on the Performance boats.com site. She may have some of Jim and Don collection of photos. Worth a try. Sadly both Jim and Don are gone but not forgotten....

  5. Anyone have any pics of the Super Karrott orange drag roadster? Not sure what engine it had but it was injected. Saw a brief view of it in one of the Jackson Bros videos

The "Karrott" was an inj A/FA powered by a BBC. It ventured to So-Cal once in a while. Mid 8's at 160 when it went straight.

The picture of the cars on the track is Irwindale Raceway, when your looking at the picture you would be on the spectator side looking down the track (west) the cars were headed up the track to the starting line. We used to sneak in and end up by the water tank in the background. Any crew member's remember sticking your pit passes on the telephone poles in the pits during the race ? After we would sneak in we would look for pit passes on the telephone poles to wear.

A&B Speeds first engine was 377" ( Iknow because we bought it for our A/G Anglia) and the second was a 402" on 100%

I am a regular monitor of the Classic Funny car site and speak frequnetly with the more prominent members openly and via PM. Never I have found so many afflicted with cancer. There has to be a correlation here. In any event, I offer my prayers to all and advise everyone to take heed and learn of the risks, warning signs and preventative measures.

    I really doubt it.
I just have to think when it's your turn,it's your turn as I have known too many people to suffer from the bic c that never smoke or drank or raced or anything of that sort.

On the one hand, don't want to see this threat wander O/T, but on the other hand it is a good question...for years nitro was rumored to be a carcinogen, and for all of us who burned it, had to wonder...but according to this site, while nitro has produced cancerous tumors in animals, none observed in humans:

    http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/roc/twelfth/profiles/Nitromethane.pdf

Now back to our regularly scheduled show (But thanks for raising the question)

amendment to above "and yes I meant 'thread'"...doesn't mean that nitro doesn't cause human cancer, just none observed in tests done...so precautions are smart, respirators, don't breathe too much, or mix it with your Jack Daniels...

OK, my turn to go O/T, and perhaps this might make a good discussion in another forum thread. I ran into an guy in October who ran in the same racing circles as me several decades ago. I immediatly asked about other guys we knew, and the first 3 names I inquired about are all deceased, still in their 60's and 2 non smoker/drinkers. One man was hefty well over 250 lb. but cancer had riddled him so bad, my friend said it felt like they carried an empty casket to the grave site.
Everyone may be satisfied thinking nitro is pretty benign, but what about hydrazine? And toluene is in all kinds of fuel. Who knows what the common link is, but I bet there is one, and I think the numbers speak for themselves.
Makes me wonder. Tom S. in Tn.

Hi guys, your subject about the big C.
Fuels, Well its a deadly chemical used as rocket fuel and so forth, can't breath it too well, can you? Common sence says it can cause problems in our systems and starts the cancer cells to go bad in our systems. Remember asbestos and the adds on the tv from all the lawyers to sue all the companies or collect from money put aside for people that have had asbestos caused cancer. well I'm not a Dr. or Lawyer but anything with all those chemicals in can't be good for your body over a long period of time.
