So Cal Plating inspired 1936 Ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nostalgia59, Dec 11, 2011.

  1. Thanks Curbspeed and I will have the top padded and covered to look like the original car. Need louvers? I'm leaning toward a dark Seafoam green paint and tan or grey-tan top.

The rear window openings I used were from two 35-36 coupe or sedan roofs I had laying around.

  2. Subscribed!! This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing the build with us.

If I remember the interview Pat Ganahl did with Duvall about twenty years ago, He mentioned that So-Cal Plating had done a large run of store fixtures for the Safeway grocery chain at the time the original was being finished. Their corporate color was a sea foam green, and the left overs from that were used to paint the truck.

  14. Thanks again everyone... I modified a '41 ford front license plate mount to fit on the Desoto bumper. Looks pretty good with the Art Deco look...

Ahhh c'mon Rik, Chip's comments may pack a little sting but he's not saying people who love customs are stupid or some form of lower life form is he? Hahaa
    C'mon, let's hug it out!

Lynn's going to perfect this car, I think.

Hey Chip, wait 'til you see what I did with this car for Street Rodder....I think you'll LOVE it.

  19. Ive been picking at it for 4 or 5 years but started the body mods around July. You guys really help to keep my enthusiasm up. I always get burned out on projects but I'll try to stay focused on this one. The mechanical stuff is ready to go and some parts are even painted. Still lots to do.....

  21. I remembered how Nealinca made a dolly to work the back roll on his great '32 pickup so I did something similiar only in steel...

Been waiting for that one Rikster! And probably partially deserve it, too! But this car very much transcends the custom versus hot rod debate if only in it's functional use and build. Always been one of my favorites.

Wow, awesome work so far! I've always loved the Socal Plating 36, it's one of my favorites...and obviously a favorite of quite a few here.

    Very inspiring!

  26. The top inner structure is just 1/2" EMT and 3/4" angle iron. I live close to the ocean so I like to prime things as I go. Still need to mount headliner bows etc.

I think the car would look good in 1941 Willys Maroon with an off white top. Your not copying the other car so why copy the color? What plans do you have for the front sheetmetal. A 1935 Ford grille would work nicely on this in my opinion. Keep going.
