Here are a few new pics, i molded the valence pan to the grill surround and the fender. Just finished the driver side now on to the passenger side. Thank you all... More pics to come...

I like the reworked grille surround. Has anyone ever added a second pair of outer grille teeth to the center of one of these Plymouth grilles to give it 5 teeth instead of 3? I always wondered what that'd look like, should be more of a Desoto bar look I would think.

Does anyone have ideas on the seaming the hood?

 

Weld a 1/8" rod down the seam to put a peak in the hood.

What up guys, sorry i haven't been on and posting pics up. Ive been doing tons of therapy trying to recover from my ankle injury. Here are a few pics of what ive done since the last post. The grill surround is pretty much donejust needs a little cleaning up, i started to french my headlights using the stock bezels. Next is to finish the hood. More pics this weekend.

Oh very cool!! Love seeing an old Plymouth being fixed up! My Dad's very first car was a '50 Plymouth actually!

Also - very nice job on the metal work. Hope to learn this in the near future!!

 

I think it would look better with 7 teeth rather than 5 teeth. With 5 teeth they would be too spaced out for a DeSoto-style grille. I like it with just 3 teeth though.

 

great work man, i love seeing people keep these 50's Mopars on the road, i am hoping in the near future i will have access to a shop to get some body work on my 53 Cranbrook. keep it up and keep us posted.

 

Hows it going everyone? Sorry ive been out od the loop for a while been taking care of family life. im sure some if not most of yous know what i mean. I have a 6 month old lil boy at home. Well ive been work on my 51 as much as i can when i can. Here are some up to date pics of the hood peak welded solid, grinded, and filed smooth. I also changed my mind with using the stock headlight bezels and scored a set of 54 chevy bezels from a friend for $free.99. i frenched and molded those in finished the corners on the hood start to do some body filler when i decided to shave my cowl vent. Thats pretty much where im at with my 51 at the moment. Next up im making fender flares and molding that into the valence pan and still thinking of running open lake pipes, i do the flares will mold into the pipes, if not it will taper off at the bottem of the fender. What do you guys think? Then hopefully sometime next year i can have cash saved up to chop the roof.

The next thing i did was remake the plymouth logo good trim piece and molded it to the hood. I liked the lines of the the trim piece so i make one out of sheet, welded it to the hood and molded it to make a nice body line. I laid down some fiberglass filler over the welds and some plastic filler where needed.

A good friend of mine and WELL know pinstriper Anthony White can by to hang out out and pulled out his brush and put my with and sons names on the dash.

 

Here are some more pics of the hood being blocked and were i decided to shave the cowl vent. That's pretty much were i am up to date with my 51. This weekend ill lay some filler and continue blocking the front and then make the fender flares. Stay tuned....
