An intelligent gentleman has referred to this as "Gremlins", must be because he knows these Flatheads.

Same thing will happen if you just bolt an aluminum plate to a piece of iron, (think aircraft structures). They refer to it as dissimilar metal corrosion, and is the reason they coat the aluminum with zinc chromate primer. Add water which becomes electrolyte and you create corrosion faster. Find a non acidic coolant or fill the block and run it dry. If it did that to those plates, it will do the same thing to your aluminum heads. If you look at most old aluminum heads it's visible around the coolant holes.

  3. Yea I'm aware of the corrosion but was surprised on how quick it reacted in this block will put a sac anode in the new block and other things.......as I have ideas on cooling between rounds and need the h2o...........

  4. Well another thing I do to these motors when using a C4 is to get a truck pan do a little surgery on it, a little welding and poof I get to tighten up the torque converter bolts without dropping pan, I use a Dremmel to make a fine cut to the pan

Carl, I really like that pan mod- great thinking!

  7. Tim Just realized that the last h20 in the block was Eagle field H20 oh well on to the anodes. Found some "pencil anodes" that I will put into the block that will be easy to change......

Thanks Buddy we are always looking for ways of making things easier for me as I get older, n older, n older.............

  10. Just to be sure I checked Elwood's cooling, looks alright with water and soluable oil.

  11. Do they let you run with sol oil on NHRA tracks??

  15. Tim everything I read on NHRA tracks is H2O only no additives...............

  16. Hey Carl:

What ratio do you run your injector pump at? Can't remember, but are you running a 2-port Hilborn 4-71 injector?

  17. I am using it to supply fuel to three carbs, and it was 1 to 1 now will be underdriven to slow it down a bit. I run a bypass line back to the tank and it has worked out well so far. Would like to run Injection when I go to the 4-71 and a 2 port would be the cats ass.

  18. I do drain it and run water in the FED but I keep it in the Uni, if it leaks on the lake bed it soaks right in.

  19. Thanks! Was wondering, most of the pump setups I see run at about 50 - 66% of crank speed. Part of the reason is to reduce the amount of fuel going to the bypass . . . guess some folks worry about heat and air in the fuel. This is probably more of an issue with a small tank like a digger runs.

Yeah, a 2-port Hilborn sure looks nice on a 4-71 blower!

You see a lot of pumps driven off the camshaft so 50% seems about right.

Yea I am running a 2 gal tank and have not had problems with heat yet just wanted to slow it down a bit anyway..... will run carburated for a while and if that ain't enough than its off to huff huff land for a while....

  22. Humm just got the anodes in......left to right: anode and holder, put together and in the front motor mount.......

  23. I like your anode setup - where did you buy them and do you happen to have a part number? These would be good to add to the FlatCad - as we'll have the same issues and I really don't want to corrode the heads.

    Nice stuff!

you can get the anodes (zinc) at a boaters supply.....

  28. I might just have to do the same for Elwood. Thanks for the lesson Carl.

  29. Thank you Trent! just ordered two. ;-)
