    I've got one to tell you that happened to me. I was working at a Texaco station when I was 16 (1966) in Columbia Mo... college town. This guy(college professer) walked in the station and said his car was broke down a couple of miles up the road. So we get in the tow truck and head that way. I ask him what kind of car it was...and he said it was a 62 corvett. I ask him if he wanted to sell it. He said yea...and I'll sell it cheap. About that time I was getting pretty excited. When we got there it was a 62 corvair. Ruined my day. :eek:

    guy in high school used to go on about his dad's bone-stock mach one with the 455 big block in it. same guy told me he changed the bearings in his stock gti's turbo and now he was making 25 pounds of boost. i often wonder if he actually believed all of this shit, somehow.

    My favorite is the local who says his Dad had a real Thundertbolt, but his "had a cross ram with 2 fours", and that he used to "drive it on the street after they changed it to a 4-speed".

    We are not going to have to explain a 3/4 cam again, are we?

    My neighbor who knows I'm into performance vehicles just bought a used Toyota Highlander. He told me twice it has a racing motor in it. I never asked him or commented on such a BS claim. I just ignored him. Probably should have asked him if he wanted to run for Pinks. Why do people think it's necessary to come up with that stuff? Maybe he thinks I look stupid enough to believe it. I can't tell you how many times people I know try to Bull Shit me. My other neighbor told me he shot a deer. When I asked him how many points it had he said he didn't remember. Asked him what he did with it and he told me he gave it away. He also told me he killed a turkey at 100 yards with a shotgun but didn't remember the length of his beard. Another BS story. I can tell you how many deer I've killed over the years and how many points each one had. The world is full of Bull Shitters. I think they are giving me a complex. There is only one thing you can do with Bull Shitters and thats to walk away.

    I don't know why that would be true. It was a common term when flatheads were the belly button of choice. But applied to Chevy Olds, Cads and GMC engines also. Don't see why it would have changed it's meaning.

    I always thought that the term 3/4 cam was a generic term for a non stock cam, meaning a race cam or a partial race cam. In short a 3/4 cam is an easy way to label a performance cam, as I understand it. I could be wrong.

    Gold chainer standing by a Model A for sale for $120,000. Says he needs to recoup his money. Then says he built the car himself, and did all the work himself, including the interior. Had the interior guys emblem glued to the base of the seat.

  20. True story:

    There's this guy with a blown Nova Wagon. He claims the he's got the blower turned down to only 800 horse. I watched him make a pass.... 9.70's.... in the 1/8th! I think he's a little off! (in more ways than one)

    10 years ago, I was driving my Model A Coupe from business to business promoting our local car show. The Model A is chopped, suede blue with white scallops, sitting on a deuce frame with a SBC. I pull up to a local shop and ask if he's interested in sponsoring a trophy. The owner, an ASE mechanic in his early 50's, asks "is that thing stock?" Temptation is too much. I respond, "yeah, the deluxe models came with V-8 Chevys." I made a note to never go back or reccommed that shop to anyone.

    I was at the CC Street Machine nats in Springfield, IL back in '82 or so, and a sweaty ole f'er leans on the fender of my '69 Dodge R/T vert and spouts the classic "I had one jes like this one". I was actually nice enough to indulge him, and as it turned out, it WAS his old car! He had another one at home, and also had the original motor out of mine! Needless to say, I had that motor within a week.

    I had this Boso tell that the medal flake on his car was pure 100% 24K gold. YA I always wonder why his radiator was lopsided and found out he put a V8 in his T with the stock frame. The frame was broken right in half and he still drove it around town only.

    Older thread, but just experienced this the other day. A hole in the wall shop has my OT car and a guy there starts telling me how he owned a Pierce Arrow, obligatory Tri-Fives, and other lofty, I mean seriously doubtful, things I can't remember. But I had to draw the line when he said he used to own a Tucker (thinking I wouldn't know what it was).

    Why does this happen? :confused::rolleyes:

    I was a crew chief on a nostalgia funny car for a few years and heard some good ones over the years. One stands out from the others, guy tells me he was at a race once that had nostalgia front engine dragsters at, when the cars left the line one of them made a move towards the centerline and the other car. He said the guy in the other lane saw the other dragster coming towards him and he just punched the gas at about half track and the car went into a big wheelie and the out of control car just went under the front wheels of the wheelie car, he told me it was the wildest thing he had ever seen. I know the tune up for a funny car might be a little different, but I know for a fact the funny car (and dragsters) usually only run at full throttle, unless it smokes the tires or makes a move. Crazy shit people expect us to believe.

    I had a neighbor that always claimed he owned the fastest 5.0 mustang in existence. problem was he couldnt prove it because he sold it and the kid he sold it to wrapped it around a pole. So I picked up a 95 supercharged cobra and he came over to my drivway after dinner and says " dude this is just like the one I use to have, but mine was faster". I quickly cut him off and said " foo theres no way it was faster than this , theres only two cobras ford ever built like mine, and the other one drove all the way to the moon". the look on his face was priceless.

  30. Guy once told me he had a "shoe-y on deuce rails". Yeah, he really meant a shoebox on deuce rails :(

    Now the term is one we use all the time to represent any nonsensical expression. I even snuck a license plate frame on to my buddies daily driver that said my other car is a shoe-y on deuce rails. It was on for 2 full months until someone asked what one was. Good times :)
