Thanks for the input. I think I know what im going to do. I do have another question, what do the consider a BFX? I know its a small block but what suspension do the run? Is it stock front? Have thought of doing something with my 66 mustang. Wont take as long to get done, want to go to the Hot Rod Reunion in kentucky and have some fun. THANKS, MIKE

Ya know- come to think of it, I want a re-match early next year! We only ran one of the match races, the other was in the elimination round, where we did not run heads up. So- I do not really consider the Peddler to be a "true" match -race winner between the two of us.:) By the time we butt heads again, the Rocket will be pared down to be more even with the Peddler...

  3. Mike, in this part of the country best nostalgia racing is in this class. Requires a stock type front suspension. Don't think they were taking Mustangs last time I checked and only take FE powered Comets.

Mike;they do not run B/FX at either Reuninon,I don't think any modern, nostalgia races have a B/FX class.Until S/XS or outlaw tracks got involved,B/FX cars had stock front suspension. At the NHRR in Kentucky they run N/SS which is all big block cars,Fords must use FE engines.Other door cars run in HOT ROD or Gas classes. At Bakersfield and the CHRR they run A/FX which falls under the ANW rules,60 to 72 cars, engine must be same make as car,big or small block,9.00 to 12.00 dial-in,many more rules, they can and will make exceptions depending on car count! Fast Eddie;I'm going to NHRR next year if I have to push my junk back there!!!! It looked like you needed a wing man to help fight all those scrubs in H/R!!Third time is the charm!!! ROY.

  9. Hey Roy, the Comet gathering in Tennessee is the weekend before the NHRR event in Kentucky. If you come this far East you might as well go to both.

My attempt at taking some weight off the front end with cheap aluminum rims disguised as magnesium:

I kinda screwed myself on a set of chrome steelies I had. I had them cut to make the offset deeper, then found out that there is not enough room on the front side to make the depth I need. So- I ruined the chrome, and we are "reversing" the center to get the needed offset. I'll sandblast them to roughen them up, and hit them with the same color as these fronts. Still shedding close to fifty pounds with the new slicks over the heavy Firestones. Got a busy holiday in the garage.

    Dale,
Looking good with the new wheel idea, and thanks for the video's.
I had some shine while I watched them all, not at 10am like Eddie!

Both Summit and Jegs "house" brand. $96.00 a piece. These are 15x4. I had them sand-blasted with a more aggressive media, then shot them with VHT's "Nu-Cast" high temp paint. This paint has very fine flecks of gold and silver in it, and in the sun, it does give it a bit of a golden hue, much like the old magnesiun units. Unfortunately, the offsets they offer for the rear wheels are quite weird! Instead of making the rim dish deeper, they have made the mounting pad thicker! Oh well, mix and match for the track!!

  20. Dale:

Just looked at Jeg's, they have them on sale for $86.99 each!

Rooster;your Falcon really does not fit any nostalgia class other than a bracket type class. The East Coast and Mid West Nostalgia Super Stock classes all require a FE style engine in Ford products,a small block set up like yours does not fit their rules.Out here on the West Coast the American Nostalgia West group classifies all their cars as A/FX,big or small blocks. Most groups do not allow power adders like turbos, blowers or nitrous.Just make your Falcon safe enough to pass all NHRA/IHRA safety tech for the ET and speeds you think it will run.My Comet has more safety gear than is required but I built it for me,not for a certain class. The guys are right about Nalstalga racing! Dennis K. was one of the First to set up Nalstalga Drag Raciin in 1985 with the PFCA ( Ford Car Club ) all the Fords or Mercury's had to be all original Factory Drag Cars w/ FE type engines. The only exception was the Factory BFX 289ci Comet. Dennis invited Z11 Chevys and Mopars that didn't have to be original, Clones were fine. They wanted all the cars to have a early 60's paint and lettering scheme. Now because the cost of the original Drag Cars are so high its best to build a clone car with more safety. Use FE engine, you can even make a 352ci run good numbers if you know what you are doing. You don't need a 427ci engine most of FE parts fit on a 352,390 or 428 block. Unless you have or earn the Big Bucks save some money and have Fun.~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

Those look so cool I'm tempted to order a set. I posted in a Falcon thread about how I really liked Dave Lyall's old Falcon's wheels and how Rocket makes some that would be cool in the rear. I used my Torq Thrusts on another car so I'll need wheels for my Cyclone eventually.

More info on the Comet Winter Diet Program:

I have been thinking about front wheels on Comet's what else!!

Halibrands rims with 4.5 bolt pattern 15" X 4" wide with tubes using
7.10-15 4-ply Moroso Drag Special. Weight 25# each, if you don't use
Tubes they leak air, The problem is they are hard to find in good shape.
Plus these guys want Big Bucks $$$$$$. That is real AFX / BFX rims.

Cragars SS rims with 4.5 bolt pattern 15" X 4" wide without tubes using
    26 x 4.5 -15 Moroso - DS-2 tires, for racing only. Weight 32# each, No problem
With these. Just the correct rim for the 65 AFX / BFX Comets.

Cragars Super Trick rims, all aluminum with a duel bolt pattern 15" X 4" wide
Without tubes using 28 x 4.5 - 15 Goodyear Eagle, for racing only. Weight 27#
Each. A little large for a 64/65 Comet but work good on a 66/67 Comet.

All the rims above are weight with tires. What do the Rocket Rims weight with
The tires on them? Waiting for answer?
The New Rocket Rims look great to me. ~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

I really like the igniters too, the only bad part about the wheels are the smallest I could find are 15x6, no 4in width wheels
