Customs Shoe Box Grill, Comments needed

I am trying to decide on what grill to run in my 49 Meteor shoebox next season.

1&2. Are the original Meteor grill, it already has an advantage because the majority think it is a 49-50 Merc. grill.


3&4. Is an actual 49- 50 Merc grill which is slightly wider than the Meteor, I have removed the center TOOTH. It offers what I think is a cleaner custom appearance but just cant decide.

I like it a lot actually with the tooth removed. I was thinking of doing the same thing to mine

 

i like both but the merc grill does look alot cleaner and smoother.

i gotta say i like the meteor grille, but you cant go wrong! i like the trim around the top, what is that?

 

The Merc grille looks a little cleaner...but with it in there the car looses all of its unique Meteor iden***y ,I would leave it alone if it were mine !

Really , either way is a winner , but I kinda like the original grille - very cool .

 

It is the original grill surround chrome plated.

 

Anyone can have a Merc grill.
Not anyone can have a Meteor grill.

The Meteor grille looks best to me...looks more like a 49-50 Merc grille than the merc grille does...a good look to me.

 

x 10 Meteors are hard enough to come by as is...keep its id i reckon.

 

I think 3 and 4 look alot better then 1 and 2

 

I say leave it the way it is. I got to see your car in person this year in Charlotte and it looked outstanding.

 

i ran a merc grill in my shoebox before i sold it to another hamb member.

 

My vote is for the unique original. You are so familier with the orig , but to us folks down south it is awsome and unique. Great car man. ~sololobo~

 

Both are a very good choice for just about any shoebox !
I own a 49 & 50 tudors . I have a Merc grill to use in one of them . But after looking at both , I will have to put my vote on the original grill ! that grill really looks great !

I like it with the tooth, but the grill just looks too closed off for me.... I'm sure you'll get about 4 or 5 pages worth of opinions though.

 

I think you answered your own question with the Merc grille looking more like a custom item. Over all your shoebox is looking very cool, I like it. One veto for the Merc grille.

Merc grill,the other one is not bad either.But the Merc's grill looks cleaner to my eyes too.

 

Difficult choice! Both look good but I think I would go with the stock grille.

The stock Meteor grille looks best to me. As others have said, it's unique, especially to us neighbors to your south. Nice ride any way you go........Don.

 

Hey Larry, man after seeing shoeboxes done every different way ,how can you make one a little different ,with the stock grill I LOVE IT !!!!

 

Darryl, Thanks for the compliment. I still dont know which way I am going to go but the good thing is they are both almost bolt in with about 1 hours work. By the way I am still waiting to hear from you for the photos and if you want that splash pan moulding? Larry

 

I like the stocker for a change.
Considering how fast they go in you can always swap it at will i guess.

Another thing, i think the Merc one would look a lot better w/ the molded Merc surround like in the pic that olcurmdgeon posted.
