Pay to get in? I've never been to a yard like that:confused: I guess we've got it pretty good here, although some of them won't let you back in the yard without an escort.

I still don't see what the big deal is about the metal detector.

Yup, you gotta pay. There is a Pick-your-Part in Sun Valley as well, that has a "Primo" section that charges you an additional fee on top off the first fee.

It's not the just the metal detector, they are making you empty out your pockets to according to the OP...Sounds like what you have to do when you go to court, not when you leave the JUNK yard. Nothing like reaching in your pockets with greasy hands...

We are sure leaving the world in a sad state for the next generation, aren't we? :( 50 years ago we didn't lock our doors, knew our neighbors, and our kids could play outside without worrying about some pervert grabbing and killing them. How the hell did we get to this place?

Now we have junkyards with metal detectors, cameras everywhere, everyone is armed to the teeth, and we trust no one. Civilization sure has progressed, hasn't it? :(

    Time for a cold beer.

  7. Sounds like it's getting sadder everyday, i'll join you in that beer though (mines a VB by the way) in 5 minutes once i'm finished here!

  8. If your an honest person why would this bother you or be a problem, it's just a sign of the times.

I'm thinking regardless of what you signed if you are leaving and some jack ass at the junkyard tells you to empty your pockets you can tell him to fuck off and then if they dick with you , you can then sue them. this is America dammit!

I'm an honest person and it bugs the hell out of me. it's like "hey you piece of shit, come over here and prove you are not stealing".

why anyone would put up with it more than once is beyond me.

There has been more than one pickup , van, or car bagged by thieves right in the U-Pick parking lot around here. Ain't that a bitch? Take your good ride to the yard to get parts for your dead ride and then end up walking home.

I don't take a rag because I just use gloves. The greasy hands in the pocket response was a joke.

The problem is, how far is too far? At what point do people get fed up and take their business elsewhere?

I don't know about you, but I don't like being watched like a hawk...and I'm far from a theif, as a matter fact, I went out of my way to bust two theives that stole a friend's car last October. As I said before I hate theives just as much as anyone here.

There are thieves everywhere. I was riding home from work on the bus today and some kids ran off with a guy's i-pad. He went chasing after them and the bus driver took off like nothing happened. I don't steal things, but I know there are a lot of people out there who do. I don't mind going through a little hassle so somebody else feels safer. I like feeling safe myself.

WTF? You get scanned at the airport, don't you? Why? Because there are a LOT of dishonest citizens out there. The guy at the yard isn't saying you're a thief, he's just trying to protect his stuff. Plain and simple. If you had people over at your house and noticed stuff missing after they left. Wouldn't you keep an eye out the next time someone came over? Especially a stranger? Jeez, get over it and hope he doesn't smash your balls with the wand.

And stop wishing for the "old days" because they're history. The sooner people remember that, the easier it will be for them to accept the reality of this fucked up world we live in.

This is a whiner thread. Back to cars.

With these junk yards dealing with new cars, it seems a "plastic detector" would be much more practical ;) :p

  17. The point is if it wasn't for dickheads in the past ripping these places off for years this would never have been needed. They have got to do what they have got to do to turn a profit and stay in business. Is it cool, no but as long as your not the one who caused the problem , don't take it personal and move on.

I thought of that. I realize the world we live in, I didn't ask for the point of why they do the search.

I think, (just my opinion), it's starting to go too far, so I will just take my business elsewhere. I'm through arguing here.

If you're honest and aren't stealing anything, then I don't see a reason to be upset about an exit search.

I've been to all the yards mentioned, and the others South of Monrovia, and more. First time I went into one with a 'cover charge' I felt a tinge of anger until I remembered what my Mama used to say:'Either you play by the rules, or you don't get to play'. Not to try and teach anybody a lesson, but guys, it's their game and they get to make up the rules. And yeah, I went back, and went to all of 'em. They have the parts. I used to take two wheeler, a bucket full of wrenches and pullers, and a wad of bungie cords. For someone building a project, it's the bone yards, no matter what they're called, and no matter what kind of hassle you go through to get in and get out, or you have to deal with the folks at swap meets who like to skin you alive and listen to you scream when they sell you something you might just as easily found at 'pick-a-part' for pennies on the dollar. Just sayin'.

how do these places operate? dont they get the cars cheap, and then scrap it? letting you buy parts off it seems like extra profit for them. all the yard i go to, they couldnt car less about rare parts, or wether they sell anything or not.

TPS among other sensors, band clamps, OEM electrical connectors, dash knobs that make the item unsellable to someone else. Get a recyclers magazine that is geared towards owners (like parts counterman for parts guys, etc) and the small parts theft is a multi-million dollar industry loss, if if you feel violated just think of the owner being f'ed over by one or two dirtbags screwing it up for all.

I would like the parts yard to pat me down. I need the attention

  29. In the past, I've heard of things being thrown over fences and retrieved later at night. Not my style for sure.

I've always been up front with the 'yards I deal with. I have been asked to open the tool box up upon my exit, but that's cool with me. The prices are are so low, why eff up a good thing?

I understand. I have seen the thiefs and their actions so I guess the owners have to do what they have to do. I am just glad that some owners are still willing to let us go in and wander the yard. I simply hate the "pay and we will bring it to you" places. I will go thru any metal detector they want as long as they don't get pissed off when they find my pistol in my boot or under my jacket!
