Just tryin' to do the guy a favor and keep it "traditional" on a "traditional" site. I'd hate to see him waste a bunch of money and end up with a Pro-Stock ass end and a Gasser front end.
How much longer is the 292 over the 6 cyl that came in the HJ's? I think it would be neat, and somewhat period correct to back when. Another subscribed follower.
The 292 is pretty long. I think it would be easier to put the smallblock in with maybe an old Hilborn injector setup. It may have to be a tunnelram though. I'm on a rocking chair budget.
I don't plan for the henry J to be an actual racing gasser. It's gonna be a streetrod with the "look" that thinks it's a gasser. The engine may turn out to be basically unstreetable but what the heck. I'll be "kool" LOL I learned a long time ago, I don't have to impress Chip Foose to be the local hero. All I have to do is impress my neighbors and it's a successful build. So far, I've built 5 T buckets, a 31 Model A pickup, a 64 Chevy II tubbed with a straight axle, recently had a 30 Model A coupe, a 29 chopped Coupe, and a '72 GMC with a factory 454. I keep my neighbors wondering what's next. They ain't seen the Henry J yet and wouldn't know what it was if they did see it. LOL Life is ok for an old man.
This ain't your car,,it's Jackies and I'm pretty sure he knows what he is doing,, Gasser Styled car built to drive on the streets! HRP
You Henry J guys all have my envy... Back in high school, about 1960 or so one of the high school gear heads bought one and put a big Chrysler engine it. Crude as the devil, but I have loved them ever since. Good for all of you, and nice build you are starting... Cheers...
Hey! Don't ya'll get yer panties in a wad. Of course it's his car, and he can turn it into a Mardi Gras Float if he wants to. But, if it isn't going to be a traditional build, I suggest: It be Tubbed, Independent Jag Rear, Dubs w/Spinners, Straight Axle w/Airbags, Snorkle Scoop, Daytona Wing, Mud Flaps, Fish Stickers, Superfly Headlights, Gulwing Doors, Neon Lighted Running Boards and a Continental Kit. And I don't need any %&#% from you guys with Tampon testicles that can't take a %&#%*# joke
dragrcr50, I don't exactly understand. Is there something wrong with these cars? That's precisely what I intend for my J to look like.
I think it is. My old friend Rich Venza said it was. Rich built a 37 Fiat Topolino body for me once. I put a tunnelrammed 472 Cadillac engine in it. Was a handful.
I think the 3/8's would be good, you still have to blend it to the quarters and that would be a lot of blending with that 1/2 inch. Not sure if you seen dragrcr50's build thread on his Henry J but pretty seriously done http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=446359
I thought the 3/8 would be good. It would bend easier to a smooth radius. A slight kink or odd bend and the outline is crap. Kinda dread that operation. LOL I got started taking the front cap off today. Sixty year old bolts and screws that are dedicated to doing their job are a real pain. Jackie
I would think you could bend that radius like I did with mine, just keep your hands moving in small incraments around the tire to keep a smooth radius.
Man that's a solid car, here's a link to Henry J's and builds http://henryjpage.homestead.com/TheHenryJpage.html I think Hartmans car is in there somewhere.
your J is in great shape mine was a rot box, I just finished making the frame for it last week and have stared with the front suspension now. Im using a 9 inch rear out of a 67 mustang and going to run a stroker 427 in it. but I still need a good hood and doors for it, dose any one know of any for sale in the south east?
Esbit, Doors and a hood may be hard to find without going 'glas. I'll sure be looking. I have a good 4 cyl flathead and trans we can deal on though. LOL
jeep guys buy the 4 cyl motors , I really dont want to use any glass if I can help it . if I did I would go full tilt nose then.
