The motor is in with a little touch of brain damage from a late night install, Will be cranking it up today. Check in later today for a live link to the start up with your I-pad and face time at carl.bell@skanska.com Come hang out with us when its all going down. Here is that valve squash Tudor you were asking about with the 1.6 rockers, Hang on, it will be ok.
Its running! Carl scared the **** out of me several times with it. Needs some carb tweaking and it will be a tire frier.
Get in, sit down shut up and hold on. That's what is going on here at the Hall County Hot Rod Shop. Motor sounds and is running great. 6000+ RPMs makes some killer HP. Manny thanks to all that helped.
The stock starter wouldn't turn the motor so Josh had a Jegs high torque starter he let me use. Now we are rolling.
So the big day came and went. It was fun while it lasted. I came home from work Monday and was tuning the motor and the timing chain cut loose and here are the results. From what I can tell all that is bad is the stock timing chain so that will be replaced with a much better one. So the lessen learned is dont use stock timing chains on High Performence motors. I have the oil pan off and cleaned out and I turned the cam around a few times and all looks good. When I put the heads on I did check the valve clearance and that looked good so I'm keeping my fingers crossed the valves and heads are good. I will do a compression test next after I put another stock chain on I have in a box. If all checks out I will get a good chain and put it back together. I have a dead line like everything else so this weekend it should be rolling again if all looks good.
Bummer, feel for you. Hope everything checks out OK, and a better chain is all it takes. Have my fingers crossed for you......Jim
Damn Carl....hate the carnage!! Just now catchin' up with the thread, sorry I've been missin' it. Doin' a hell of a job man, hang in there. Gotta get over an check 'er out.
You know guys, its good to hear that I'm not the one out there with problems, I guess **** happens to all of us at some point. It's been a rough week dealing with this as an unknown untill last night when the black cloud lifted. I took the heads off and found that the heads seam to be fine and the pistons are not damaged. Even thow all but two pistons checked out with good compresion I found a total of 4 bent valves and 1 bent push rod, They should all be in the mail today and ready to install in the next few days. I was ment to do everything twice I guess, some times 3 times. Lets get this thing back up and running and hit the streets. Its a good day If you look at the .30 you can see where the valves were hitting. It's a shiny spot.
What a sweet ride it is, I think I will take it easy for a few miles this time, We can't do this again, Motor started rt up and is sounding like a beast, A little tuning and it will be ready to roll, Who is the man now? Is it Christmas? Here is a short video
