Karma's a bitch. I think he'll be paying in spades for his despicable behavior. Just do your best and hopefully things will work out.

  3. That's what I've always thought.

I think of this sweetheart of a lady more as Mom than mother-in-law. We get along great. She's a hoot, and still grabs me for a dance if we're around live music.

While we're moving her, she's right in there packing and carrying boxes. If you tell her not to, she gets pissy with 'ya. I took all the ornaments and lights off her Xmas tree to get them packed. When I came back the following day, she had the 8' tree drug outside. She's about 4'-8" tall, maybe a 100 lbs wet and 83 years young.

Here's momma LowKat soaking up some sun before WWII.

Man that is so sad about your mother in law, she certainly doesn't deserve that! Bless you and your wife for taking care of that lady.
Regarding your brother in law, this just goes to show that a Dirtbag with money is still a Dirtbag. I do hope he gets his in the end.

Mark, Your thread is sure giving me some inspiration for my '57 F-100 Panel Truck. Will be doing some rattle can rebuilds on the firewall, inner fenders and bumpers. Going to be pulling my 223/3 spd to be replaced by 460 Ford. Need a liitle muscle to pull a car trailer.

  9. Thanks for the good words guys. Things'll get better.

We're integrating a lot of Mom's stuff into our place so she feels at home. At the same time, sell off some of our junk that hers is replacing to finance the bathroom remodel into 2 bathrooms.

This was the 1st night for Mom at our house. I can see improvement in her well being already. Tonight Mom says "tomorrow night is New Year's Eve so I'm gonna pick up some Corona and champagne and we'll celebrate a couple things"

The B-I-L came to her house today while I was starting to load the U-Haul. He slipped past me in the back of the truck and proceeded upstairs to tell Mom he wanted to keep a bunch of her possessions. They had a small spat but Mom is a pacifist and will agree to anything.

(There's a full U-Haul in my driveway to unload tomorrow.)

I did accidentally ram a few of the radiused drywall corners in "his new" pristine house with a dresser so he could remember this day, every day.

Dave, do you have your panel somewhere on the HAMB for us to see?

I used semi-gloss for the inner fenders, core support and radiator on mine and couldn't be happier. The semi-gloss is very forgiving.

Mark, My panel has been in the weeds since I wrecked it back in '82 (I think). I sure put lots of miles on the ol' 223 with big Amrstrong Tru Tracs and wide 15 inch wheels. If you want I will e-mail you a couple od pix that will show how buried it is. It will be out of their soon so I can get that 460 back to work !

Believe it or not the sides had the business the Panel did from '57 (brand new - Purchase at Snow Ford in San Barnardino). The sides had the logos for Pabst Blue Ribbon - The Beer that Made Milwaukee Famous (I think). Good old Air Force made me cover it up so I could buy gas at the Base Gas Station . . . .

  11. GREAT ! thread lowcat. Inspirational, resourceful & doing the best you can. with what you have got. This is my 1st post not counting my intro. Love the forum due to this thread.
Your work ethic will pay dividends when it comes to the new job that is looking for you. Adversity gives us strength of character.
A quote from my ol' boss, with regards to the B-I-L "Time wounds all heals". If you can let go of your adverse feelings toward him, karma WILL! take place.

  12. 41 Dave,
Love to see your truck. Too bad about the PBR logos on the side panels.

Not sure if you know, but you can create picture albums here on your profile page. Look right below the HAMB shield at the top of any page for the link "Manage Your Account"... click on that, then choose "Pictures & Albums"... You can upload from your computer files there.

    zot,
Welcome aboard, the HAMB is a wealth of information that will amaze you. Thank you for the compliments. I actually like "hunting and gathering" used parts for a build but wouldn't mind trying one someday with new shiney parts out of a catalog. Nahhh... nevermind, that would take the fun out of it.

I'm not worrying about the B-I-L, he's made his bed.

  13. Here's some photos I took tonight.

My M-I-L gave me the pair of his and hers repro Western Flyer tank bikes that her husband and her used to ride around their neighborhood. Actually she gave them to me 14 years ago when her husband passed but I hung them from the ceiling in her garage so they were out of the way. Then she could still enjoy the memories. Looks like Mrs. LowKat and I will be riding them around the campground this summer. They look pretty cool in the back of the F1.

I have a small collection of bicycles hanging in my carport but there's no more room in the rafters. I'm gonna have to let a couple bikes go so I can hang up the Western Flyers.

Here's the inside of my garage now. I have a path from front to back and access to my tool box but that's about it.

I really like the contrast of the engine hoist and china cabinets.

Those tankers are awesome looking two wheelers. You guys will be "stylin"!
And that china cabinet could probably store at least 50 Krylon cans!

With the M.I.L's current situation, I'm happy to see all the contrast in the garage- You're a good man!.....Family first.

Mark you have no idea how inspired i am by reading your thread this morning over breakfast. Thanks again for sharing your story with us.

  16. Funny thing, if I stocked the cabinet with Krylon, my MIL wouldn't say a word. Well, she'd probably say "Your paint looks nice in there"

Yesterday I sold my juke box that hasn't been played in about 10 years (since my kids left home) That'll make room for one china cabinet inside. Now to find space for two more.

That Juke Box is rad. Sorry you had to let it go. Keep it up son.

  22. I didn't mind selling it, made a few bucks and it went to a good home that I can visit anytime. Good working juke however it hadn't been played much in the last 10 years.

My house is full of that kinda' junk. When my boys were in jr. high school they'd bring kids over and charge them 50 cents to take a tour.

Been thinning the garage out as MIL decides what is 'keeper' stuff.
Should be able to get back in there in a couple months.

    Can I borrow a bike?

  24. Picked up a set of 1950's? Alemite lubesters today.
They're about 2 feet square and 3 feet tall.
One for drain oil, one for grease and one for motor oil.
They're rough but pretty complete and kinda cool.

Also picked up the old bulk oil tank which is in really good shape.

  25. WHOA! $1200 for a single....
I'm really surprised. I thought they were cool but not that cool.
Of course mine need about $1199 worth of restoration each.

    Wow! Cool find!

  27. Are you related to Frank or Mike ? We get "American Pickers" in OZ. Maybe you don't need a new job. With finds like these, you already got one ?;)

Those lubesters are pretty cool! I remember something like those from my first job at an Esso gas station in 1971. Who'da thought something like that would be worth so much.
