For the guy posting that Bodie pics, man I'd be all over that '37 Chevy coupe, wow.

 

Too bad the cars aren't for sale there. (also good in a way as the town stays authentic that way)

 

My dad often told me about a Bugatti that was sitting in an old shed on a farm that was either near Providence, RI or Putnam, MA. This was back in the early 60's. It had been sitting for quite a while even then as a tree was already growing through it. The owner of the farm passed away in the early 80's and we never did find out what ever happened to the car.

 

Lubbock TX on our honeymoon in '97. It was rumored that Buddy Holly's 58 is in there.

This was an old yard in Vaughn New Mexico. I used to see this several times a year growing up, as I had family in Albuquerque and Roswell. A very small town, blink and you'd miss it. The owner of the run down historical hotel told us about rumored bootleger tunnels and bodies buried under the floor of and old gambling/saloon. They guy had an ancient stage coach in the parlor of the hotel and had porn playing in the back room at 7AM. Ah Vaughn.

Ah yes, Vaughn. Lots of cool cars but mainly 4 doors and every piece of glass busted out by neighborhood kids. All of the cars got cleared out several years ago and are gone . . .

That Mercury is INCREDIBLE...I want it!

One of the first cars I drove was a 1963 Mercury Meteor "cop car" - won a lot of pocket money dragging the local muscle cars in the back 40.

Wonder if this old pink and white mercury ever found a home?

 

This thread is very interesting, but also very sad. So much unnecessary waste and neglect of some great old cars and car parts.

So, here's something to hopefully lift the mood a bit...

...two "before" photos of a '57 DeSoto discovered on a moutain top in West Virginia...

...and one "after" photo of the same car after it was rescued and given the attention it deserved by a very talented and meticulous restorer who knew potential when he saw it.

A happy ending, indeed, and another great car saved for future generations.
