I had a request for a photo of the radiator mounts. Stock frame mount with poly plastic block.

    Enjoying following this build.
Is the rad mount finished?? Or just mocked up? - Ideally you could use a longer bolt with a bit more rubber below the frame, and some sort of lockung nut - a Nyloc or two nuts locked together.

It's just mocked up for now. Orginally they were mounted with a spring to allow for movement on ruff roads. There is also a bracket that mounts to each side from the radiator to the inner fender panels to keep any movement forward and into the fan.

I just couldn't stand the Gasser look. Don't get me wrong I love gassers but not on this one. I picked up a set of 350# springs and installed them today and put the dropped spindles back in. Much better now. I have spring action now and it sets at 7.5" from the grill chin to the pavement. By the time I get all of the additional weight added and it settles it should be just right. With the 375# springs, two big guys could not budge the front end before. That was not going to change so I made the changes and we are happy now.

Before: 375# springs with stock spindles
    [IMG]
Now: 350# springs with 2" dropped spindles

I slowed down a little over the holidays. The wiper kit has been giving me fits. Cheap kit and the wiper towers will not work right. Passenger side works but drivers side will not mesh with the gear. I need to find some cable driven towers off a MG/Jag or something British. I have been putting off putting the dash in until I got them fixed. So today I installed it to work out some wiring issues. I know it will have to come back out but at least I get to see it in place. The radio head will go in the speaker area and the rest under the seat. Won't even know it is there when the grill is in place.

It's from Custom Autosound. A new unit out called a Secretaudio SST. Hideaway Audio Solution. Has the control head with the base unit to be mounted in the dash or under the seat etc. I did buy mine off ebay for $20 cheaper and no shipping.

I added a little more trim to it today. Now I need to get started on working on my gauge cluster.

I have been watching, hoping to see you mount the rest of the front sheetmetal. I have a '39 coupe and i know it can be tough to align it all up. I'll just wait till you get there.

  17. Damn, looking better everyday! What size front tires are you running?

I will be starting on that soon. I had to work on the front spring problem first. That seems to be solved and ready for a quick alignment.

They are 205/65/15's from Diamond Back

Yes we do and hope to have this one ready for spring cruising. Thanks to all, mj40's

So that's what they are supposed to look like when they are done right! Very nice build! Loving it. All I have is this hunk of junk...

I noticed that you mentioned that you were having problems with your windshield wipers. Are you scratch building or using a kit. If you are using a kit, what brand is it so I don't have the same problem.

I used the “It's a Snap” kit, which is no longer being made. Motor is a Delco Remy unit and all looks good but the wiper transmissions seem to be the weak point. On one of them I can't get the gear to mesh with the drive cable. Is the Ez Wire unit any better or maybe the Specialty Power Windows (SPW). they all look the same but quite a spread in pricing.

I haven't forgot you guys and gals. While waiting for parts to come in I spent a couple days putting this gauge cluster together. I use trimmed late model 12v donors for the gauges and speedo from another donor. I may do a build thread on these as well. I think this is the 4th cluster I have put together and love the stock looking idea. I have one in my black truck too.

That gauge cluster is brilliant! (and your dash looks very nice as well!) I'd love to know how to do that!

  27. Man, you are moving right along! My truck project has stalled while I get my other 2 cars straightened out - I hope to be back on it sometime this spring.

I would love to find out more on the gauge cluster build - very, very nice indeed. I started one by using 2 1/8" 12-volt gauges for the gas, oil, temp, and volts but I was stuck on the speedo. I do have a couple 40 speedos I could use but then they are not all black faced. I know there are some black faced decals I could use but I always thought there should be something out there I could retrofit - I just could never find one ....

That speedo looks like it is from an early '70s Mopar. Duster, Dart?
