Brennan Gyro-Monorail, 1909. Brennan Gyro-Monorail car carrying goods during a demonstration of the vehicle on 11 November 1909. The vehicle was balanced by two vertical gyroscopes mounted side- by-side, which spun in opposite directions. Louis Brennan (1852-1932) was an Irish inventor who worked on early monorails, as well as developing the torpedo. Brennan was forced to sell his marital home when Government support for his monorail was withdrawn, and he went on to carry out research involving the development of the helicopter. In December 1932, Breannan was knocked down by a car and died of his injuries a month later.

From Popular Science Monthly, April 1933:

gasoline engine, is the recent product of an
Italian inventor. With this horse, he declares,
children may be trained to ride. The iron
Dobbin is said to canter along a road or across
a rough field with equal ease. Its design recalls
the attempts of inventors, before the days of the
automobile, to imitate nature and produce a
mechanical steed capable of drawing a wagon.”

Love this shot of Henry Ford with his boater tipped back at a rakish angle. I like to think it gives more a sense of the man than the formal, posed shots that came later in his life.

The running board splash aprons mounted on the inside of the running board brackets and the "tell-tail" platform rear spring arrangement means that this is most likely a early Cadillac "30". Judging from the size of the car and the stabilizer rod across the rear axle and the lack of front doors and a windshield on the Demi-Tonneau coachwork would make this a 1911 Cadillac "30"

 

Thanks for the detective work, Clayton! I love this photo. I just wish I could find one of the building interior.

Since this is a Cadillac, it was probably sold right around the corner at the old Republic Hotel which was the site of Bay City's first Cadillac dealership. Unfortunately, it's a parking lot now.

As an interesting aside, you couldn't park like that now. It's angled parking along the Washington Avenue these days.

I don't doubt that you are correct!

It sad how times have changed, at least the building survives.....and is not playing the part of a parking lot as many others have become.

 

The car in post #9311 is a 1906 Rambler.

Has anyone any interest in pics of these? All Dodge Brothers from WW 1.

 

I have about 20 if any one wants to see them.

I'm still trying to figure out pic, let's see if all three show up.

 

Maybe three more. Does anyone know anything about these trucks? As I said they are all Dodge Brothers WW 1 trucks. I will post pics of the only kind of military truck I know to exist. Would love to know more about others if anyone can help.
