There is a new swap meet this weekend at the state fairgrounds on McDowell and 19th avenue. The swap is scheduled to be Saturday and Sunday from 5am to 2pm rain or shine. I am curious how many out of state swap chasers will be coming to this event?
I've been looking forward to SOMETHING like this happening at the Fairgrounds. Can't wait to check it out! The formula for success is there. The way I figure it, is if it doesn't GO, it must be because of some negative energy vortex honed in over the valley.
Can't wait to see the layout. I foresee utilizing the area around the livestock buildings or the grandstand area, under and besides. Of course there is plenty of just flat out open area too. There's a definite cool vibe there.
It has plenty of fancy ads and stuff. It's touted as Arizona largest event though it has yet to happen. I guess we'll see. I am on the fence if I will buy a space or not. Their rules do not allow you to park your car and trailer on the same space which is not good for me. Also, there are other things happeneing this weekend, Firebird rockabilly deal, etc.. and Glendale swap is also on Sunday I think. Was not able to find out in their ads what is costs to get in either, only swap space prices.
Jimmy, layout here: CLICK THIS Yup, busy weekend for us. The Cafe' Racer swap @ Steel Horse is Sunday also
Its a two day swap. Hit this one up on Saturday and that leaves Sunday open for gcc or steel horse. Plenty of time to see if this thing is a bunch of hype or the real deal. Leaving the car and trailer out of the swap spaces is kind of a good idea to keep the commercial parts companies from coming out. Let those guys sell stuff from their store or leave it to the internet.
Yea, bad planning for the motorcycle types with the steel horse deal in town the same weekend! I would do a space otherwise, but as it sits I'm just gonna go out for a bit on Sat morning.
Naw dude! Thanks anyway, but did you happen to notice all those two wheeled things around my house and shop?I'm gonna go hang out with the biker types on Sunday at the Steel Horse deal. That's why I was saying it's a bit unfortunate that they picked this weekend for the big deal swap, if it hadn't been the same weekend, I'd be asking you if you wanted to split a space at the big one!
Ah hell, there's too much going on this weekend for me to keep up. I guess I'll add the northside to my itinerary.
Went to the swap meet today. What a Killer location!! We need to support this event. It was a great turnout for the 1ST one. Cant wait till the next one. Jimmy was right the Fairgrounds have a B I T C H E N vibe!
Dude! Loved it!!! I t was so neat to go to a swap in my home town and NOT see the same **** that we have all been selling to each other for the last twenty years or so!!! This town is so huge, but the same 50 of us have been selling and reselling at the swaps here for so long that I feel like I have owned about half the **** out there at one time or another. It was so cool to see a large format that brought out NEW **** to buy!
I agree it's a killer location, but, whoever sold those spots needs to get their **** together. I can't see the idea behind selling spots to people that isolate them 250 ft out on their own.... If I had paid for one of them somebody would've been getting an earful. Other than that it was great.
Honestly, I'm sure the idea was take "bulk up" the area a bit and make the whole thing feel a bit bigger. I kind of expected that for a first time kinda deal. I think this will be one to watch from here on out though! Some friends and I were laughing a bit yesterday thinking how funny it would be if the California contingent were to start coming over like we always have gone over there! Being a hot rodder in Phoenix has always meant that 5 hour drive is done once a month or so ...
I can understand trying to "fluff" it a bit. Any idea on when the next one might be coming up? The lady at the entrance/exit mentioned March.... looks like the Glendale one is still the only one I know about that's a monthly. That's all OK, still beats the hell out of back home.
Thanks man. Good to know. I'm new here in PHX, working at an AMC restoration shop in Peoria, so, I'm stoked to see so much more going on than in Washington state.
I live at 7th St. and Thomas.... I've already been by El Polackos shop a few times, but, I'm looking to see all of them.
We opted not to get a space and just go and check it out. Glad we did too. yeah, I heard March 24-5 too for the next one. That is a week befoe my Nostalgic Show & GO! so that is good for me. I thought it was OK but, liked the Glendale deal today better. It was a bad idea to schedule them the same weekend and have to compete with each other. I saw vendors at the fairgrounds Sat and the same ones at GCC on Sunday. Was surprised to see so much roundy round stuff at GCC. I am fine with the fair location as it is closer for me and easy to get on and off the I-10 from the east.
The Glendale guys gave the Roundys a special spot. Kind of bittersweet seeing so many quickchanges and torsion bar goodies but pretty unrelated to old hot roddy grade parts.
