I have been working on getting the stainless for the windows nipped and fitted, I have also chopped the inside garnishes, as well I have chopped the 1/4 window frames and made them work like the stock flip outs. Here are some pics, tomorrow I will cut the windshield rubber as well as the center post and stainless.

thanks vonbuzz, I originaly felt it wasn't chopped enough but now that I've had it for a while the virtues of a mild chop are starting to hit home, however the next merc, also a 49 coupe which had the roof removed to make way for a carson top [ I've since decided to install 56 caddy conv top bows and make it work] anyway it has a shorter windshield frame so it will be more chopped.

  14. Nice mild Merc. I really like the simple clean approach. But, I love Nailhead.

well, I need to massaage the hood a little and nip and weld it to make it fit, will do that this week, as well I scored a bunch of stainless pipe and a pair of stainless thrush mufflers, will have to figure out how to do the cutout valves for the stainless lakepipes, I will start the exhaust this week.thie stainless pipe I have mocked in this picture will be changed of course, I will not put caps on the lakepipes like the early originals. The stainless will be 2 1/2 " from the headers to the rear of the mufflers, after that it will be 2" to the rear bumper and 2" to the lake pipes so they will be muffled as well. The reason I would like to put valves to the lake pipes is because the lakes on a highway cruise can drown out the cruising tunes, also in city trffic the exhaust can get rather unbearable.

Well, I have been working on customer cars for a while and will be for another month or so but I thought I would post some pics. I know I will catch some flack for this but I have decided to use the stock bench seats in another merc and run 64 Riviera seats in this one. You might want to grab your glycerine pills in advance.

Here is the stainless trim I will be using on my side panels.

Well I finally got around to fitting the last tooth and now it has a full set of teeth, I also shaved the 49 chev licence surround to fit and unfortunatly still have a couple of months work on other peoples cars before I can get back to my merc although the body man could take it when he is able and get it into paint.Wish I was rich so I could just work on my own stuff,, oh well,SIGH.

  26. Looks great.

Hope I don't seem a little nosy, but do you think the lake pipe and the '53 side trim clash a bit? I know pics can be deceiving.

What to do ? My other merc the lake pipes sometimes kiss the ground and they are chrome plated steel which don't do well scarping pavement, could be you are right.
