WOW! And I was just grumbling a little about spending $3.88 a gallon for gas and just driving on a little island. I'll remember your prices the next time I gas up.

I'm looking at a few gas pedals at the moment and this one from Speedway caught my eye. It's floor mounted, meaning the firewall will remain clean but I'm just concerned that it would be too much "gasser" style. I could always powdercoat/paint the non chrome parts to make it fade a bit in the background. Anyone that has an opinion on this, please let me know what you think.

Fab your own, which is more "hot-roddish"?
That would be unique, not some massproduction piece.

i have driven a car with one similar, not sure if it was the same model or not. but i loved it cause you can rest your boot on the bottom rail nice and easily, however if you are wearing wider boots it pushes on those side rails.

so personally i would grind one side off or maybe both and leave the bottom rail.

I will off course need to customize it, but I thought this would give me a head start instead of trying to re-invent the wheel. And by the time I'm finished changing it, it won't look like mass production.:D thank you for your input.

My thoughts exactly. Grind the left piece off so movement towards the brake pedal won't be restricted. (and my boots won't fit inside the rails anyway). I like the idea that the foot is somewhat held in place rather than slipping off a tiny gas pedal. Now all I need to do is see if I can make it fit due to the limited space.....thank you for your thoughts.

I'm sure there's a dealer here in Europe but I like dealing directly with the companies in the US. From the time I order, to receiving it here, usually takes less than 2 weeks. So that's not too bad.

Hope to have the car finished this year, depending on time and $. I'm in no rush, I just want it done properly, even if that may mean that I'm going to complete it a little later.......but I'll be trying my hardest to have it done this year though.

  15. I am torn on the pedal. You definitley have a performance aspect to your build that it works with but I also feel it seems a bit out of place in a custom car and just a regular spoon type pedal would be more appropriate.

Thank you for your input K13. There are two sides to my car. On the one hand it's a custom, on the other side there is the performance. I'm trying to build a car that has both. Is it a traditional custom? No, I don't think it is. There are endless discussions on airride, m2, EFI, etc whether or not they belong. I'd like to think that I'm building a safe perfomance custom. And there are people that don't like it, dissapprove, or whatever, that's fine by me too. Otherwise everyone would build the same car and that would be boring. I respect everyone's ideas, thoughts, and I certainly take them in account in the decision making process.

With regards to the pedal, (assuming it will fit width wise.) I prefer this to a little spoon. Sorry for the rant, just ventilating my thoughts out loud. Hope you don't mind.:):):) No harm intended off course! thanks again for the input.

  17. LOL Rant away.:D:D

This is all that really matters in the long run. You don't need to please anybody but yourself. Although I understand asking for opinions as they always seem to provide some things that you haven't thought about yourself.

100% correct K13. Like I said, I value the opinion of fellow Hambers. That's what makes this such a great place. Every input is welcome. And sometimes ventilating my thoughts/ideas with you guys helps a lot. Considering it's approaching midnight here, I should be getting my beauty sleep, otherwise I'll remain this ugly for the rest of my life.:D:D:D

I know on my 48 Plymouth, floor space around the pedals is crowded. With that in mind, a lot of the old custom and race cars used pedals from base drums, and there were a lot of different size drum pedals. The one from Speedway looks pretty big, got any drummer buddies? There has to be some cool looking pedals between the big one shown and the small spoon style pedals. Might be worth a search here and elsewhere on line under "drum pedals". Gene

What a treat to read this build !

That's super work Eric. An inspiration for sure.

I'm about embark on a 40 Chrysler Coupe build.......tho' nothing like yours (or Rock's)

I'll post questions elsewhere so as to not hi-jack the thread. (and maybe learn how to post a build)

BTW, I live about 8 miles from SpeedWay. Was just there Wednesday.
Very nice facility and the museum tour is very very good.

Thanks again, Eric for sharing your passion.

  21. Have you considered adapting a drum pedal? Go to a music store or check some online just for the heck of it. After seeing some in a shop, it has always been a consideration for a future build of mine. My son is a drummer in a band and they sure take a beating.

i'd also have a look into drum pedals Eric...
they meet your demands on having something more solid to rest your foot on an come in great shapes that give you a hell of options to make it a unique piece.
I'd check marktplaats/eeeebay for old pedals like Wfl Speed Master or Ludwig Speed King.

Thank you Gene. I'm going to measure the room available today and will look into the drum pedals for sure.

Thanks Bob. I know that these drum pedals take more of a beating than they will ever see as a gas pedal. I'm going to check them out.

Thanks Jochen. You guys have got me really thinking about this. Maybe I can modify one of these pedals to make it work. Thanks again.

Thanks Jochen. Plenty of food for thought. Some of those pedals look great! What are you using in your car?

Whoa Eric, that pedal ain't for your car in my opinion, far too racy, I think something more delicate like a P&J pedal would be way nicer.
I'm in England and are Speedway etc etc dealers.

I know it looks racy....very true. I was thinking of toning it down by painting it black. The feature I like about this is the floor mounting aspect, giving me a clean firewall. I checked out PJ pedals, but all I could find were amp switches/buttons. Do you have a website/pics?

Used modified chevy caprice mechanics with so cal speed shop pedal pads.

As the space is quite small they work well. And I got way less horses to manage with the lumpy 305 so that works out.

With your gorgeous hemi I would definitely go for something that gives the best control possible. What you also could consider its the set up from old VW Bugs/Porsche 356s. Looks good in a functional way and has more more grip that the 40s original set ups.

Eric if you want to keep the firewall clean just bond a mounting to the inside with epoxy glue, it won't ever come off.

I was thinking of either of these 3
