    Forget the Gasser already!

You KNOW whats gonna happen...we'll end up taking the Gasser to Moncton together and every time we stop for gas you'll make me change the plugs or rejet the carb!

I think if you kept just used the 55 tail lights in in the stock quater... notch it so you keep the flow of the stock quater or maybe lay the light flat down and use it that way

Well here is my update for today..First thing was to set up the seat.makes some mounts and get the set where I want it. next I put the coloume in place I noticed that it was too long outside the firewall.Seems my linkage will touch the manifold. So I spent much if the morning stripping the colume apart and shorting it. I wanted to keep the key on the dash and not having any tilt columes with out the key I ended up removing all the key parts from the colume and shaving the key off. After I had all that done I made up the mounts for it and welded them in place.. bit worred that the colume brackets might be in the way of a few switchs or speedo so Going to have to test fit the dash parts to be sure.

Well As you noticed the steering wheels is in ruff shape!! It from the 56 olds that the dash came from and it was cracked up way too much to fix so I hunted around for a wheels the had two spokes in the same location..I had a wheel from a 60 pontiac parts car and it was two spoke but was a bit smaller..Now this will work better for me I have long legs and need all the room i can get under the wheel!! so Ilet the pictures do the talking. I made up a jig on my bench so as to make sure everthing was in the right place.. still need to fill this wheel but it is in way better shape then what I had.

Still need to finsh off the colume and mount it to the steering box.. Played around with some stock parts but the angles are too much for the stock joints. So going to have to do some shopping for parts!! today it seems to be a nice day so going to take avantage of this and strip the parts car of what I need.. cause when the snow hits Im not going to get at it!!

the floor pan and braces out of that 52 4 door should work for your fleet... I used a fleetline floor pan in my 50 convertible, and it fit perfect, the only differences were the rear bracing for the convert stuff..

You sure make it easy for a fella to get caught up with your threads, Fitz.
First of all, what happened to the Merc? I missed something there . . .

Gone for 8 or 9 months from the HAMB, and step right back in where I left off with you. What the heck have you been doing up there? Being Canadian, I know you have not been slacking off, so please tell me where I can check out what you've been up to. :D

Glad to see the Flatliner back in action.

What happen to the merc!! well that car turned into a nightmare.. it looked good but was a ruff car and my plan was to make a quick build and get it on the road but it turned into another rusty project like the fleetline..So I sold the car.. Had too many projects.. also sold a 35 Pontiac, 63 Studebaker, 59 Rambler and a 48 Dodge truck. Im down to two project cars now this one and a 32 tudor I picked up the summer. that is ruffer then flatliner!!lol

Your so right.. pictures make almost everthing look good..The front fenders look to be in good shape but they do have rust.. both bottoms are gone but these fenders are way better shape then what came with flatliner.

Ok not much of a update but I did spend mostly ever evening at the car.. Dont seem like much but I had to repair the pass fender by the door.seem the fender was beat up and the inner frame that the fender mounts to was let go and just rivited to the fender.. Had to chip away the filler to find what was under it..may look ruff but these fender are solid just beat up a bit!! Had to work the rockers I made to fit the fender and had to drill a new mounting hole for the bottom.the bottoms are not the best so I will replace them so I just cut a hole in them so i could mount the bottoms.. So the front is on and Im happy with the door seams but with the front on I can now see my issues with the steering box better!!

The problem I have with the steering box is clearance.. seems it is in the way of everthing!! the rad and the idea I have for a grill is also affected..So I went and did some homework to find out what was up.Well because the lower control armes are so long you cant use a standard rack and pinion. the inner pivit point on a S10 are very close and all the kits for these frames have custom shorten racks. so had to dig a bit deeper.. I need a rack with center mounted steering and it had to be front steer.. this means that the rack had to mount to the front of the strut and not behind.. Well On one of our Friday dinner time pow wows Hackerbilt came up with a idea. a rack from a dodge intrepid!! it center steer and runs off the front of the strut!! well next was to find one!! that never took too long as a trip up to our buddy Mikes scrap yard and He had one and told me to take it. He loves when someone is hot rodding part to fit other rigs.lol So now I have the rack and need to sit down and figure out how to mount this thing..still not sure if it will work but Ill give it a try.. This is my plan for the week so with any luck by next weekend Ill have this figured out....I hope!!

Glad to see progress on the Flatliner again. I personally liked the fender you modified to resemble the 49-50 fender. The flow of the 49-50 rear quarters really works well with the Fleetline roof. I so want to ditch my rear fenders on my 51. Can't wait to see the top come down on this thing. Thanks for the inspiration.
