Been off the HAMB since around March due to computer crash and deciding then to go cold turkey for awhile.

I get sucked in and have trouble escaping.

Yours is the first thread that I wanted to get caught back up with. You did not disappoint, Steve. The grille work is inspiring, just fantastic!

And thanks for taking several months off the Ford while I was gone. It made my catch-up easier! But now I need to go check out the '51 thread!

A few pics of the driver side skirt...some of the pics are kinda dark Photoshop was being difficult . This side went alot smoother,I got the hang of the shrinker stretcher and was able to make this side with a full 4 ft piece and one more piece to make up the end, I had access to a 4 ft brake so that was aslong as I could make them...the pass side I think i used 4 or 5 pieces . I took a few more pics of this side ,so Eli could see the process better :D

    Both pieces tacked in...

Bottom edge welded on,might be hard to see on the pic but there is a slight curve in it.

I tacked some washers on to give me a gap between the wheel opening and the frame for the skirt itself.

    Tacked the skin on...

    View of the backside...

You can see the bottom brackets ,a couple of 1/4" bolts holds it on, I welded the nuts on the inside of the bottom of the quarter.

Finished product ..I am REALY happy with how this side turned out, very little filler will be needed to finish it off...in fact I was so pleased that the other side looked kinda shitty now ....so I decided to redo some of it

You can see the wow in the quarter from this view...this is due in part to the fact that I made this fender from two shitty ones pieced together when the car was still gonna be a 4 door beater....the rest is my learning curve with the shrinker/strtcher

So I cut out the ugliness...

And got the new pieces tacked in place before I ran out of steam...

Thats some cool stuff Steve! I'd love to learn how to do this sort of thing! Too bad I'm not closer, I'd rebuild your drive train and rewire the car for some metal working lessons.
This is probably a dumb question but what holds the top of the skirt in place and keeps it from moving?

I forgot to take a pic of this, its just 2 pieces of 1/4 rod, before I welded the skin on the frame,I drilled 2 holes through the frame into the new wheel lip, insereted the rods and welded them to the skirt frame, simple and the skirt wont move....het if you ever want to come to (today) rainy, windy , and cool Nova Scotia you are welcome to!!

I went back and looked closer at the pics and saw what you're talking about. Duh, I'm not blind, just can't see shit. lol That boattail speedster is pretty cool btw.
As for going to Nova Scotia I think I'd wait till summer. Seen enough snow & cold to last a lifetime. lol I was actually in Halifax in 1974, what a beautiful city! I imagine the rest of NS is just as nice.

Great progress! You make me feel inadequate. The skirts are cool, although if you'd told me what you were doing, I'd have thought it'd look awful. Incredible. The boat-tail project is VERY cool, any more info on that thing?

    Happy New Year!

Yours is the first thread I have ever subscribed to on any forum. When I first read it while you were still making a 4 door I was AMAZED now with everything you've done and to add that grill you are just amazing to watch. Congrats on getting back to the project and take care of that back.

Were you in the Navy back then ? Lots of US sailor's have been here in the last 100 years or so! Its a nice place, real laid back and the people are so friendly...we moved here about 4 yrs ago and I havent seen 10% of what there is to see around here!

Thanks Brian! After all the work on the Diamond T you cant possibly feel inadequate ! You even have shiny paint ! The boat tail started out as a 37 chevy cowl front fenders and doors its not in the pics but its got a duval repop windshield home built frame,Must II style front 4 link &coil overs in the back. He's pretty good friends with Gene Winfield and is gonna try and get him here to do some kind of paint work on it...not sure what yet though...hes on here but doesnt really know how to use a computer. He just started it in late Sept. ...fast worker lol!

Thanks for the compliments! I rolled it outside today to clean out the shop and took a couple of pics..I will post em this week. I cant believe I am almost done the fab/metalwork...it will be body work time soon yay ! When I look back at the begining of this thread I am surprised myself by how much I have gotten done...need that reality check once in a while when I feel like I am not getting much accomplished !

Heres anothe r pic of the boat tail...he is still working on the shape for the front fenders..

Yes I was, we did a port visit in June of '74. I still remember weaving down the street as I still had my "sea legs" and getting dirty looks from a couple of older folks who apparently thought I was drunk, and I hadn't started yet! lol Seems like the more local beer I drank the better I walked! Hell I hadn't thought of that in years! :D

Thats pretty cool that you were here! I am about a half hour away but work in the Halifax area.

Heres a few pics from this weekend ,and a couple when I pushed it outside to take a couple of pics last weekend..

I want to get the doors off so I can finish a bit of welding on the bottoms that I cant get at while they are on the car...I wasnt happy with the gap at the top of the doors so I decided to deal with that before I removed them...

Rather than reworking the roof I decided to add a chunk of small diameter rod to the top of the door, then I can just fine tune the edge along the roof...

Its kinda hard to tell from the pic but I spent some time sanding/wire wheeling and using a 3m strip wheel on the door, then gave it a decent scrub with some phosphoric acid. I like to get everything as clean as I can before I sandblast...takes less time ,less sand and less mess :D

And a little bit of customizing around the hinge !

Nothing too exciting last night and today...I decided to start the mud work on this quarter ...another evening or 2 of sanding and It will be good enough for the 1st coat of primer...

Didnt get much time in today only a few hrs before the back said enough...Tail lights are going in the bumper guards...although the idea of a pair of custom lenses for a 49 Merc frenched in low is still floating around in my head.

Is that the black 3M wheel that looks like long fibers glued together?
Man, those things work crazy good.

    Lookin' good. :)

  26. Looking good Steve .The skirts are killer . I like the grille as well . It works with the overall theme of the coupe . I had a couple guys over this weekend that agreed to be the muscle in a few weeks . You know what I need their help for I suppose . LOL !! A little off the top please !!! All I need to do is supply the beer . Not a problem , cheap labor.

Man you don't waste any time! I like the idea of the Merc lenses Frenched into the fender, think it would fit real well with the rest of the car. That said, what type of lights were you thinking about installing in the bumper guards!
