So I'm experimenting with re shaping and generally Kustomizing some original stock steering wheels. Maybe if I can sell this one I'll be able to make a few more and do a small run of 'em. If not, then I'll just use this one on my own car. This one started as a '63 Biscayne wheel. What do you guys think so far?

Anybody have any pics of other wheels that have been cut up or customized?

  5. Reminds me of those squarish wheels on some Chrysler products.

That's an awesome looking wheel. I've always thought those look cool in a nice custom

That was my original inspiration. I haven't quite figured out how to make the straight pieces at the top and bottom to make a square one yet though.

I wish I had that kind of equipment to be able to mill stuff like that.

I think you did a beautiful job, both technically and aesthetically. Looks like something that George Jetson would be proud to drive!

Thanks. I've been trying to think of other things to incorporate into the next one I do, like maybe sections of chain, or aluminum, or....? It takes FOREVER to bodywork this stuff, I need to get this one finished and painted.

Anybody have any more ideas or pics of wheels they've done? I'm starting to get obsessed I think.

Here's a tech I did about putting the clear glitter sections back into Exner-era Mopar steering wheels, maybe you could incorporate that into a custom wheel.

I like the look of your aircraft style handlebar wheel shown above, I'd just be concerned with whacking my knuckles or knee on it coming out of a turn. You'd have to be very cautious to always have both hands on the wheel, driving a car with that wheel in it.

Thats pretty cool. maybe I'll try that on one. a dry flake gun would distribute the glitter evenly.

Turn it upside down, and it's a great steering wheel for fat guys!

Always wanted to find a stock whel to turn into something like that, meanwhile i tried to make this, but wasnt happy w/ the dish so i put the ring on my avatar 1st, then welded it to a lenght of chain as a prop for my backyard shop when at shows.

I'm almost done with this one, I think I'll scuff it down and do something different with the paint though.
