Believe it or not, this is the very sad remains of a '34 Ford 3 window. I don't think it's there any more, but should go check since I've seen people on here piece together a body from scrap parts.

I wouldn't mind having a pair of those Packard quarters to graft onto my '53. Lots of good parts still in those pics.

Here are a couple from a field I recently got my F100's out of....The Vega and Rambler American can be bought but he wants to keep the old buses. The Rambler is really nice..new floors, runs great...just an abandoned project.

It's in such a sad state yet someone still covered the carb.

I'm glad he wants to keep the buses, because if it was a deal I'd have to figure out how to get that Dodge bus home! LOL

Here is my contribution. Just a few pictures of an '39/40(?) International truck and a '48 Bentley MKVI. I apologize if the photos are too large! Let me know and I will re-size them.

looks like its time for you to get a trailer and make loads of money

  23. Aw man...that camper is too cool. What is that...a Cadillac?

It's probably just gone with rust, but dang, if that was mine, I'd try to save it. It'd be perfect for swap meets and the like.

Heres a few pics a guy on here took of his place back in the early 80s.
The first one I remember seeing leave was the red 57 nomad towards the end of the row,not long after these pics would have been taken.

So was there a Popular Mechanics article on how to turn an old Caddilac into a motorhome at sometime in the past? I've seen several of these now! Wierd.

It was a fairly common practice to convert hearses and Ambulances into trucks or motorhomes, the same companies that built the hearses and ambulances also made camper variants as well, but they are few and far between.

Completely false. Sorry for the correction but couldn't let such misinformation slide.

Starting in the '60s when fresh from service hearses and ambulances were retired, a handful of small conversion companies popped up to capitalize turning them into campers. Being second hand, generally well maintained, cheap, unwanted (comparatively), with heavy duty commercial chassis and extended wheelbase all factored in to having a second lease on life. Conversions were mainly carried out with an entire new shell from the B pillar back. Sometimes the original coach built rear lower body was used where a shorter shell sat higher, with a cut out for side door.

Caddy Campers was one such company. The below camper started out as a Superior (and the one pictured by tennesseecouchpotato started out as a Meteor).

The original coach builders had nothing to do with campers. In fact, there is not a single documented case between Superior, Miller Meteor, Eureka, or S&S constructing a camper. Yet all of these (and Barnette as well) have been photo documented as such post-conversion. There was no discrimination between which coach builders or makes were converted. Just because a Eureka badge may be seen on a front fender for example doesn't mean Eureka had any involvement in later conversion. Capice?

By the early '70s these conversions had diminished. Such a niche market was far from common practice and any guess on remaining numbers is speculative. I've seen upwards of 30 alone existing in one form or another in the last 20 years.
