What about adding a sub category?

Been reading through the HAMB for years. Anytime a non period correct traditional question arises, the response is pretty impressive. For the most part it is about 50/50 for or against. It seems that almost everyone owns a non traditional car of some sort, whether it just borders the edge or has a few parts that do not conform (me for example), but we want to be here for the knowledge, inspiration, and history. Would it be possible to add a sub category like the "Hot Rod", "Technical", etc...? Maybe something like "Traditional Non Period Specific"? Now before you say they have forums for that, they really don't. Not a street rod or rat rod forum, but traditional builds with non period specific parts (the guys with air bags, EFI, etc...The community here is why I like this board. Once again the ideas and inspirations. Why can't we all live in the same forum and have different categories to visit?

I don't want a period specific traditional car, but love to look at what others have built and created. They don't want a non period specific traditional, but I am sure the same applies. The ideas bounced between the two creates inspiration, making the traditional and non period traditional's better.

Just a thought. What do you think?

the hamb is perfect the way it is. it has to be, it's the most visited car related site on the internet and it only caters to a small portion of the market. we must be doing something right.

Please, please, let's not start a movement to change the H.A.M.B. If you don't like it, create your own website. These suggestions have been proposed previously, usually by FNGs. I see that you signed up not too long ago. Why would you, or anyone, want to screw it up with off topic subjects?

Didn't mean to imply it was doing something wrong. Just a suggestion to make it appeal to even more people. Their are a ton of us who don't fit in any of the typical car categories. "Traditional Styled" cars really don't have a home. I am only suggesting making one. I read through the build thread on that badass chopped and EFI'd 392 Hemi from Finland. So did about 5000 people, but by definition, the thread should have been deleted because it is not period specific traditional. I would have hated to miss reading that car and I am sure many others would too. Only suggesting making them welcome with a category.

For the most part multi forums within one don't work well and the HAMB works great without them. I understand that you may fell a little on the outside, but there's no reason to fell that way. There is room for the hard core 100% traditionist here and the traditionist styled cars cars here too. Some of the best threads are those that pit the two sides against other it makes for a lively and interesting thread. :D

Explore the social groups (at the top of the page, in the pull down menu under "Community") There might be one that fits you a little better. Or you could start your own. They are open to just about anything within reason (pretty much NO PORN) and are only slightly policed.

I will agree with you, to an extent, that the bigger the H.A.M.B. gets the more borderline off topic stuff appears. Modern frame swaps, bags, EFI, modern stereos, ect. ( I am just as guilty of contributing to these, as the next guy) Alot has been grandfathered in, due to it's close ties to the Custom scene.

I also fear a day looming in the future, where the H.A.M.B. gets so far reaching and enormous, that it hits a sort of terminal velocity. Taking into account the rate of expansion in the last 5 years, a day with more than 500,000 members, posts that are relagated to the fourth page, in under 3 minutes, and a moderating staff of a dozen, or more, just to keep up. A day when the window of acceptance will undoubtably have to be closed a little, simply to keep this place controlable. A kind of retreat to it's roots.
I'm not saying the H.A.M.B. is out of control now, but I think we've all noticed a sharp rise in the work load, imposed on the mods, as a result of the increased traffic. I'd just hate to see this place turn into the internet's version of the 101, in LA.

10 cars an hour on a two lane road, Barney gets to nap a little.....
500,000 cars an hour, and the road crew can't add enough lanes....

Thanks Cruiser and Never2low. An intelligent, eloquent response to a suggestion without making someone feel like a shithead for asking a question and making a suggestion...

    Cuda,

Instead of creating any new sub forum, the quickest way to have what you suggested would to form your own social group.

It's quick, easy, you can do it yourself.
    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
