Features Who's Building a T?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Slimegreeeeeen, Nov 19, 2011.

  1. For anyone who comes to Austin for the LSRU, Charlie always has a party at his shop the day after LSRU ends. IF you're a T lover, a Merc lover, it is not to be missed. Plus you'll be able to get a peek at his own amazing T. Mark those calendars, brothers and sistas.

  5. Damn right it counts.

  6. Merlin... Nice looking car, I really like the full fendered look.

Slimegreeeeeen... Great post, I've enjoyed it. I like the unchopped look, also. I sold my '26 bucket a couple years ago, miss it sometimes, it was a lot of fun...

I am planning on starting one shortly, for the home stretch. I am planning on finishing it for two indoor shows this winter (NZ) One that our club is hosting and another that is our parent organisation (NZHRA) 50th anniversary.
I am waiting for my engine builder to finish so I can do a final fitup of components, then it all comes apart for paint etc. So keep your eyes peeled.

  10. Another pearl from my files. What it lacks in tall, it makes up for in cool.

Got a little more done on my T. I'm using my hoist as an assembly table - I know it's flat and level and I can adjust it to a comfortable working level easily. The frame hasn't been cut off at the front yet because I'm still deciding what the wheelbase is going to end up being. Right now it looks like 105". The frame is narrow enough at the front right now to tuck inside the chopped Deuce shell at that location - I'm using a flat Model A style front crossmember rather than the suicide style mount I was originally contemplating. I like the look of the front of Pete Chapouris' T that he built for his Dad a few years ago. I fell in love with that gold T coupe that's been posted in this thread as well and stepped up to a chrome front end. Haven't done that for a few years and a few cars back but I think this coupe deserves it. I know most of you won't like the disc brakes but I've been there over the last 40 years and since I'm planning to make some drag strip passes with this car I want it to stop.

Subscribed and Really diggin this thread. Bought a 27 Coupe body this past year and been checking out the HAMB for info and inspiration. Mercury Charlies old car is near the top of the list.

Started by throwing together a cheap body cart with a beverage cart that was given to me and some square tubing. Cut the sides down and welded on the tubing. Shot it gray with a spray bomb last night and the body came into the garage today. I'm excited to finally get going on my life long dream so I figured I'd post a few boring pictures here.

NO CHOP, low, long, and suicide is the plan. Traditional in appearance but gonna be set up for the drag strip. Currently gathering parts for mock-up. When I have somthing substantial to share I will post a build thread.

I drew up some plans for ladder bar brackets (using '35 Ford Wishbones as the lower leg with a 7/8" tube on top) and a plate to mount the rear spring to the tube crossmember and took them to a local Lazer cutting outfit. The guy cleaned up my sketches a bit and cut everything out in a matter of minutes. Nice job and cheap. I lucked out and happened to walk in just as they were finishing up a production run and he was able to cut them while I waited.

    REAL cool!! Absolutely love it.

  21. To those of you who are interested, Mercury Charlie has a new Facebook page and if you go to it, you can see a couple teaser photos of his new T. Note the headlights. Remember to "LIKE" the page and you'll be able to stay up on his new T build.

Can anyone help me with some Visor shots? I'm replacing the huge stock one with a custom one and need a little help/ideas!!

  23. t_coupel.jpg I don't dare post a build blog because I can't keep going as consistently as someone with the talent to do it all themselves. So this thread will have to count as my build blog.
The last step to having my frame as a roller is to purchase my front end. That'll complete Phase One.
Phase Two will have to wait until after the LSRU in April. It'll consist of building the floors, mounting the body, fabbing a gas tank, running gas and brake lines, hooking up the radiator, installing the grill shell and wiring the car. I'll be posting shots on this thread as I progress.
Until then, my frame will be hoisted into the rafters above Charlie's T and he'll be jumping back on building his new T, which of course is going to blow minds.
In the meantime, I hope the handful of others who are building a T will feel free to post their progress so this thread stays alive. More on my T as well as Charlie's new T will follow. Thanks for all the support.

Here is what I have, which I have been looking to use on my coupe.
I like the 28/29 Ford model A visor.
It is simple smaller and easier enough to replicate.

  27. I'm diggin' the visor on Boyd's primered car. Which is more than I can say for the back windows.

I agree completely. That's the only thing I don't like about the car, and I can't remember another car that Boyd built that I DID like.
