Ok cool. I want to run strombergs on my tri power but they are exspensive to start and just cores....Im going to have them chromed too.
That's cool...im just painting my bases to match the car...the tops im just going to clean up the best I can.
I finished welding up my intake and now i just need to smooth out all the welds and make it clean and smooth. I mocked up my rear air bag brackets. With no weight on the frame with the original suspension on it I know I will have the proper pinon angel . My top bag mount i a little low in this picture but I know with the weight of the car on the frame is will drop just enough for the top bag mount to be welded to the top of the cross member.
Yesterday I bought a sheet of 3/16 steel plate and ordered my bushing for my rear suspension. I have already made temp-lets for my air bag brackets and my ladder bar set up. I should have a lot of pictures come Monday.
ladder bar bracket temp-let's the one on the left is for mine.. the one on the right is for my buddies model A.
I forgot to upload the picture of my bracket temp-lets the other day. I have them cut out and will get pics up of them in the next day or so.
Here are a few pics of my ladder bar brackets I made. I ran out of welding gas so they are not finished. I hope to pick some up today or tomorrow.
I started fab work on the ladder bars, front ladder bar mount brackets and welding up the rear mount bracket. I still have to do a little grinding and smoothing on the front brackets. I also still need to make the bushing sleeves on the ladder bars. I am having a hard time finding tubing with a 1" 1/8 I.D.
Last night I made my bushings sleeves for my ladder bar set up. I could not find and tubing with a 1 1/8 I.D. so I had to improvise. I picked up a some 1 1/4 pipe. I then cut it into 1 inch lengths. I then split the tubing down the side. Then I would hammer the the tubing turning it and re-rounding the tubing. After I had all 6 of them reshaped I made my ladder bar extensions to extend my ladder bars out to 35". I still need to weld the tubing back together and weld the 4 extension plates to the bars. Below are the pics of me making the bushing sleeves
Yesterday I finished welding up my ladder bars. Then I mounted them to the rear end and mounted the front mounts. I still need to finish welding the lower half of the ladder bar mounts to the rear end. I am going to start on the air bag mounts for the rear today.
I forgot to mention that i will need to notch the cross member so the ladder bars can go all the way up until the frame is on the ground.
The upper bag mounts are mounted and the cross member is notched. I still need to box in the cross member and finish making the lower bag mounts. I also need to trim down the tops of the upper bag mounts where they are coming up thru the top of the cross member.
Yesterday I flipped the frame over and did most of the finish welding to the rear cross member and upper bag mounts. I am going to start back on the front upper spring perches and get them ready for there bags.
I am currently working on cleaning up and modifying the York A\C compressor off of my old thunderbird to use as my air compressor for my air bag set up. Tonight I plan on pulling off the clutch pulley off of the compressor, clean it up and make sure it still works properly.
I'm so confused! The bumber is definately '55. In 1955 Mercury offered two roof lines, this roof line looks like a '55 Monterey. In '56 Merc made all models with the lower and better looking Montclair roof line (IMO). Also, in '55 292's were standard and in '56 the 312 was standard. But as I look at the doors on your Merc, they appear to have the proper side chrome for a '56??? So confused!!! I used to have a love affair with the '55/56 Mercs as you can prbably tell I am still a little obsessed with them!
It is a 56 With 55 front bumper and 55 tail lights. It is a 56 Mercury Custom 2 door post. chopped 4 inches. I have a 56 front bumper but i think the bullets on the 55 look much better than the 56.
Well ladies and gentlemen, It is Time for a lot of work and updates to start up again. Like a lot of people on here I just received my taxes so I was able to order some parts. I have on the way all of the stuff I need to get my engine back together....including what should be a nasty sounding cam form Isky. I also picked up some 18ga steel and other metal for the Merc along with a couple of new toys. I bought a nibbler, pneumatic scrapper and a stud gun....man do I love that stud gun. As soon as I got home I broke out the grinder and stripped the bondo off the passenger side quarter and put the stud gun to work...the Merc is starting to look like a porcupine at the moment..but its worth it....there will be a LOT less bondo in that quarter panel now. As soon as the passenger quarter is done I am going to start on making a roll pan for the rear plus making molded tail lights. So stay stunned
Got home Yesterday and found this sweet little thing waiting on me...cant wait to hear this thing in my 292. Here is a better pic of the passenger quarter panel stripped down with the studs welded to it. And the last image is of my new toy I picked up last night. a Triumph 650 lower end.
I got a little done this Weekend. I finished boxing in the front spring perches for my air bags, made my lower cups, and upper bag mounts.
I picked up my lake pipes from one of my fellow Hooligans and got a sweet deal on a pair of 4 bar spinner caps. I am going to be running floating hubcaps on my Merc. So I started work on them while I had the spindles off. 1st I made 2 washers to weld to the center of the caps out of 12ga. I used to bolts and some all thread to keep the washer perfectly level. I then welded one nut to the back side of the washer. I then centered the washer in the back of the cap and spot welded it all around. I still need to remove the mount ring from the cap and tap the center of the spindle for 5/16.
