I met Mike Van Sant when he served as service manager for Chino Ford back in the early 80's, say 82 or so. He gave me a quick run down on his bio. The 72 Mach One of SWC was purchased by him and served as his racing mount for years. His best story was how back in 69 when his 392 Invader Corvette came from out of no where and he was besting everyone with numbers few could match. And this was but 3 years or so after his return from Vietnam.

I always liked this car. And while it wasnt all that competetive, it had nice lines and graphics.

Man I remember when every atypical meet had at least a dozen injected FED in attendance, both gas and fuel, Hemi and Chevy. And the crews often had matching bowling shirts and white slacks. And of course, tube tops and hot pants were all the rage with the ladies.

    Amen,

I still have my dad's "Proud American A/FD" red white and blue bowling shirt that his crew all wore.

In reponse to RW Ohio's post: Very nice little D/Dragster. I always liked inliners, be it gasser, rail, altered or modified production. Based on the presence of the Stork Bros BB/GS back there in the bleach box, I would say this was 1972.

    Ok.I have a 57 Nomad.
Just looked to me that the rake of the tailgate/rear window was more Nomad like.
    Thanks.

Saw this car at one of the few times my dad and I went to Fontana Drag City. I am wondering if John- Zoo Keeper- Mulligan was still driving the altered when the shot was taken or if he had ventured on to the Jack Wayre car?
