I am working on a 30-31 coupe project, hardly photo worthy yet. But a question for some of the A experts on this thread. My coupe body came with no ***le and no VIN, so could be a 30 or a 31. I'd always thought there was zero difference between those years. Is there any difference? I'll post some pix and a progress report when I get to a point that is not too embarr***ing.
View attachment 1536712 View attachment 1536713 View attachment 1536714 Here's my '31 coupe. It started out as a father/son project, but as of a month ago I'm now on my own with it. Anyway. My father and I bought the body from a friend of mine who had decided to build a roadster instead of this coupe. I built the frame out of 2x3 tubing, tapering the forward ends to mimic the profile of a stock frame. I have channeled the body 3 inches. The top has already been chopped 2 inches, and will likely end up shy a couple more. I have a '64 327 and a Muncie 3-speed to go in it, along with a Ford 8 inch rear. Steering will be a BMW box mounted under the dash, and I have the stock steering wheel from a '41 chevy truck, which my great-grandfather bought new. Hopefully this will get me into the club!
Bluedot- as I understand it, there is something about door hinge screws and window regulator screws that are different from '30 to '31. I think the '30 had three screws holding the window reg. to the door, while the '31 had four. Somebody please correct me on this if I'm wrong. Greg.
Here is my 31 coupe. Started as a stock Model A that sat behind a body shop since 1970. In 2009 I purchased the car and the work began. Still lots to do, but it has come along way. Hope to get paint on it in the future.
QUESTION : i have a 5 speed in my '31 coupe . it has 3:78 gears . who makes ring & pinions for the conversion ? open drive shaft ........... steve
Thank you CWTC10. I am having a lot of fun with it. Now that it is Winter I am working my way down the "to do" list.
F6, I have a similar setup in my A coupe. You need some kind of bracing to counter the torque on the rear end. If you stomp on it, the pinion tries to go up. the radius rods are not strong enough alone. This bends the radius rods, drive shafts, and breaks u-joints. ASK ME HOW I KNOW. waspmaj, aka Tom
yeah, not tryin to be an *** but, if you read what i wrote (it's the words above the pics) you will see that i said i'm going to add a torque rod to the setup.
thanks man. seemed like a good solution to an old problem. i wanna drive this thing all over so i wanted it to ride good and be functional without worrying about stuff breaking/bending.
Russco, I must say-your coupe is perfection. Love the white top. My coupe is going in to get its white top installed this week. It's I nice touch and you don't see it all the time. Nice car dude.
Thanks very much, I love white tops and interiors. l'm sure it will look really nice, post a picture when you get it on there.
