That'd be awesome!!! I love to help tear it down when you start since I can benefit from the knowledge of seeing a 5w apart. Let me know if you need an extra body!!! Also convince your father to get a original style firewall.....and maybe throw an OLDS back in hahah!!!
I don't know what his plan is with the firewall. I do know that he would love to have that olds back, but the SBC will probably stay for now.
Well we are inching closer and closer towards getting started. My dad has since purchased all the rear suspension components except for the ladder bars and the coilovers. This was a big step since getting my old man to spend a dollar on himself is like pulling teeth. My mom finally convinced him and he got his parts at the most recent auto fair. I snapped a couple pics while I was out there this past weekend. Also, he will be selling the 68 vette rear out of the car if anyone is interested. I know its not the most hamb friendly rear but keep it in mind if you know anyone looking for one. Here is a couple pics. There is the new frame from JW rod garage. I don't think the fenders will go back on while the body is on this frame. He says eventually he plans to put the body back on the original frame with the fenders. Who knows what will go on the new frame when that happens. Hoefully a model a roadster! I beleive the diamon tucked naugahide is staying. I am trying to come up with something different for the insert on the dash. The cd player will be ditched in favor of an ipod hookup. I'd like to see him run a wood superior wheel like it had bach when he got it. The gold moroso valve covers and air cleaner are gonna get gone too. I think he wants to run the fined corvette covers. Before anyone gripes, this motor is actually out of a 68 vette. The new frame will have taller mounts that hopefully will allow him to ditch the electric fan. Overheating was always a big issue for this car. I am really excited for my dad to get going on this thing. He is long overdue to get some enjoyment out of this car. This year he will have had it 44 years!!!!
No major updates to give right now. My Dad was recovering from an injury at work back in October and is just now back up and running. He spent a bunch of his down time time getting ideas and gathering some more parts. He should be getting to work pretty soon. I will be sure to update when things get moving along.
Kev finding/seeing this thread was great. Your Dad also gave me a lot of great memories with that car. My favorite pic of your Dad with the coupe is one you did not post, it is the one that a family friend made up for him (I think)...It is a composite / partly colorized B&W photo where your dad is sitting on the running board and is wearing a red/white/blue cap with a big smile. As I recall he had a big enlargement of that photo done. Can't wait to see more updates. I really need to come visit you guys in NC, been too long. - Rob

I didn't see this the first time around. I knew your dad had a deuce 5W. You've mentioned it to me a few times.. But this thread rules. I'm glad to hear your dad wants to try and bring some of that traditional flavor back into it. I'm with the idea of finding an Olds and stuffing it back in there but there's nothing wrong with a Chevy motor. That frame under there right now is the original one that came with the body from the factory?
Yes its the original frame. His plan is to eventually put the body back on the original frame with the fenders. For now hes gonna run the body on the new frame and have some fun with it.
I'm not sure how I missed this thread this whole time but I'm here now and I love it! Get ta gettin'! Ha!
