AN fittings and lines.

I know this may have been coved before and I did do a search with no avail. I know that AN fitting where developed during WWII, but not in their red and blue look they have now. But I'm wondering what year braided SS hose came out. I want plumb up my remote oil filter and I'm having a hard time finding hose that will handle oil and heat that isn’t covered in braided SS. I want to keep the car as close to period correct as possible so any help is appreciated.

use the braided, cover it with heat shrink, makes it look much gooder. Stainless or natural aluminum fittings and your good.

 

You could go to a shop that makes hyd hoses [ like for industrial uses or agricultural]. They'd probably be black w/ steel fittings & plenty stout for the job.

Hyd and AN fittings arn't always the same .Go the cover route and it will look and work fine ...JMO

 

You can get black braided hose and clear anodized aluminum A & N fittings,all the mail order companies carry them.

 

Look up JIC hoses and fittings on line. Hydralics Inc. or something like that is where I buy my stuff. Steel not aluminum but the same 37 drgree flare as AN. Actually when you get into real commerical aircraft lots of the REAL AN and MS hoses have the braided stainless covered with Black rubber (Airoquipt Strato Flex) or cloth coverings and then some ugly red flame proof stuff.

i use Earls' Prolite350. its a black material covered teflon tubed AN line, with prolite350 end fittings.

easy to use, easy to ***emble, flexes AWESOME, and handles the heat/pressure. i have about 60 feet of it on my car from -6 to -16

 

Back in the day, a remote oil filter would have been plumbed with push on fittings, and hose clamps on black rubber oil line. Simple

 

The early hose was 'weave-loc' instead of stainless braid. Aeroquip still carries it, -AN fitiing or push-loc 37deg fittings will work with it. It looks period correct, high pressure rated, NHRA acceptable. It is rubber hose with cloth braid over the top, back in the day it was used on lots of stuff usually with a br*** fitting and a crimped br*** collar - the same fittings you'd find on mechanical injection.
