We did the same thing, had my brother drive my 38 chevy to the hall. We left in it at the end of the reception. (30 years ago) Good luck to you and Jaime

  4. You should get all the guys in the Inland Emperors to help. It will be a regular 3 ring circus. Make sure they wear their clown suits or whatever getup they have at the moment.

i love the idea, the only thing i hate is when people try and decorate the car with whip cream and put cheerios in the air vents.

wish you the best of luck getting in done in time and that you have a wonderful life with your wife to be

I think Chris is fooling us. The way he works, he's probably already got the thing done! Ha.

Good luck dude, if anyone can do it, you can. Can't wait to see the progress.

Chris - do you have any plans for painting or body work? Let me know if you need any help or tech advise on paint process's when you get to that point.

I'll be watching this one for sure! Good luck on the build (and with the wedding preparations too)!

  16. I do but not right now...I just wanna get it on the road. I will take you up on it later though :D

    Thanks man!!

  17. Well this afternoon my Dad and I buttoned the engine up. Got the new clutch on and bolted the pan up. I changed the engine color from green to red...looks like a real "full house" engine now :D I installed all new head studs that are rolled threads like original. They are EXCELLENT! A very good product.

Started checking out the old shard heads and ran into a problem. These have had some repair work in the past and had some welding in an intake valve area on one cylinder. Whoever welded em up did a nice job, but did not build up enough area and the fire ring is exposed a little into that cylinder.

So now I'm trying to find a gasket that will work or a solid copper gasket that I can trim a little in that area. I do not really wanna have em welded up and milled again...these have been milled before and I think then I would have to have em fly cut and it's just gonna get spendy. Any ideas??

    Bad area:

And if can ever get this figured out, this is what it will look like :D

Flatheads are MEANT to be painted red......or in your case Rose Pink. :)

Seriously though, I don't think I would want a flathead in any other color other then red or black.

    Rad dude!!

  19. I know you said no paint plans but you could make it match the bridesmaids dresses

  20. Chris, Don't you know someone that could carefully weld that area(tig) and then you dress it to the shape you want without milling the head? Seems pretty straightforward to me but maybe I'm wrong.

  21. I do not know if it would warp them. I am gonna ask around tomorrow, if I could get away doing that it would be great...but I am not too sure about how much heat will be applied.

  22. Chris, My dad had a vintage pair of curved block letter Edelbrocks that he just had to use when we put his motor in his roadster. After they gave us grief on our trip to B-ville he gave up and bought a new pair. No problems. Sometimes this old shit is worn out. To me it looks likes you could fix that small problem without too much heat or trouble tigging it. That's what I would do if it was mine and I had to have it.

  23. I know Dale, and I may have to go another route. I DO NOT want problems down the road. Buying used heads is always a gamble. I bought these on here a few years ago and love em...they don't repop em and I love stuff that odd ball and not reproduced. But, that said when you get into problems like this, a nice new "bolt on and go" set of heads looks tempting :D

If all else fails I can always run the "almost NOS" never ran Edmunds heads I have waiting for my 33 pickup and get another set of heads down the road for it. I would love for this car to have a nice original, non reproduced set of heads...

  24. I think I decided to ditch the heads. I placed a big bore gasket on em last night and I think it would work fine, but I do not want to chance it. They could also be welded up a little but I don't really have the money for that right now, so maybe someone else will :D I dunno if I'm gonna run the Edmunds on this engine or a new set of block letter Edelbrock's.

    Chris,
If you decide on the Edelbrock "BLOCK" letter heads, Check for the spark plug being shrouded. I fixed it the easy way on Corey's engine by just running a longer plug, but some guys actually take a die grinder to the spark plug pocket and open it up. I think if I remember correctly, it can cause pre-ignition if you don't deal with it. And I think the Edelbrock heads are the only ones that have this issue.

  26. Good to know, thanks!

  27. Last week a friend of mine sold me a 39 trans out of his 40 pickup. It has the nice "pot bellied" case. Tonight I tore her down. It was OK inside, had some wear and junk thrust washers and needle bearings. I have a slew of side loaders, so popped a nice virgin one apart and will clean and install all the guts in this case and thus have a super nice gen-u-wine 39 trans.

Looking good! Do you plan to document putting the later gears inside the '39 box?

Why I ask is I'll be running a '39 behind my 283 but have a spare '46 to sacrifice to the top-loader in case I blow the guts out (which won't happen to the best of my abilities.. but it's better to be safe than sorry).

  29. Not really...while some parts will not interchange from one gear set to the other...the ENTIRE innards from the side loader will go into the top loader. So I am simply going to clean the guts from the side loader (done), check the bearings and wear on other parts, and slap it together.

  30. Don't the cases break before the gears?
