What is the best way to store your engine while you have it sitting for a while? oil in? dry?

Oil is sitting in the bottom of the pan, not circulating, so I don't think it makes a difference.
Unless you are looking forward to cleaning the sludge out of the pan later.

I would put fresh oil in it , plug all openings . Spray some oil in each plug hole and roll the motor over every few months. That's how I do it any way .

If it is running I would put some fogging oil in it until it chokes out. That's how I store my boat motors, never had a problem.
