Butch;I use 1/8" cable, passed through holes in the bottom of the spring tower and through the lower control arm and wrapped around the strut rod.I use two cable clamps at the top and two on the bottom. I try to limit the front end to about 4 to 5 inches of lift.I have tried different settings and this seems to help keep the car from doing giant wheelstands without using wheelie bars! It still pulls some big wheelies every once in a while though, especially on a sticky track!! ROY.

I think this might be your neighbor's BFX. If so, I believe the VIN is 5J27A515231.

Ok boys and girls, what's the real number of 1965 BFX Comets built. This document which is genuine and I've had for 30 odd years states 50 Comet Drag units. I assume this number includes both A, B, and possibly C FX cars.

    Regards,
    Dennis

I just got back and it's my neighbor's BFX Comet, it's one number away from my BFX Comet! That will be one less Race Car on my Street, we still have a Thonderbolt, Hemi Dodges & Plymouths, BFX Mustang, Ramber Scramblers, 440 Road Runner, 63 Ford R Code Galaxie Conv, and a Couple Clones Drag Cars. Not bad for a street that is only One Mile Long. That BFX is the Real Deal. That the correct VIN. I think that car was Restored by Donald Allen. By the way it's out of the Second Batch. The Odd thing is having Two Cars on the same Street with One Number Apart! ~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~

What's a CFX Comet? A 200ci 6 cyl Emgine in BFX body it only has to be 12.0 pounds per cubic inch. That car would only have to weight 2400 pounds. Wear are they at? I am going to start looking for one for my collection. WRONG!!

    Couple questions....
I know the 271hp 289s werent in production Comets but what color was the block painted on those? I thought I read somewhere that they could have been gold?

Also does anyone know a link to the specs of the 271hp cams?

I have early production and late production 289 Hi-Po cam specs. Early cam C30E-C, 306 degrees advertised duration, .477" lift. Late cam C30Z-C, 310 degrees advertised duration, .460" lift.

I would think the correct color for the block would be black. Brian

The Gods may be smiling down upon the gold leaf and Wimbledon White of the Rocket. I've been turned onto a back-up pro-gas Windsor engine , built in the 80's and never run.And- I believe that class ran either 9.80 or 9.90 index?? If it pans out, maybe 'ol Roy'll be looking at the side of my car, instead of me looking at his tailights from a half track away!!!!! Dear God, another rampant smallblock may be let loose among the FE bretheren. This'll get us kicked out for good!!!

Stay tuned. It gonna be coming over to the engine builder for some inspecting .....

That was one of those days that'll be hard to forget. Out on the streets , with some of the bitchinest race cars outta the Southern California region, cruising the streets, a bit of mayhem, then onto Irwindale for roundy-round drag racing AFX-style. Something only our good buddy Ernie could have orchestrated........

OK, I may be off on this, but somewhere I recall seeing one. The 1965 NHRA rulebook states CFX is 13+ lbs/cu or 3757 lbs min wt. Agree, that would require a lot of ballast to get there.

The L-M sales info document from 1965 does list three DSO units for racing. Type I is the 427 Comet, Type II is the 289 HiPo w/fiberglass and other lightweight components, and Type III is the 289 HiPo with no lightweight components listed .

More importantly, I've done some additional research into 65 BFX builds. Note the attached document dated 1 Mar 65 indicates dealers have already ordered 15 and additional orders are anticipated. These 15 plus the Nash car would make 16. The fact that there are at least two distinct DSO numbers, both with different dates codes (20C and 15E), leads me to believe there were more than 16 BFX's built, and the number of 50 (less the AFX cars) indicated in the document I posted the other day is most likely a more accurate build number. If only 15 cars were built I would of expected them to been ordered all at the same time and on only one (DSO) order. If any other documents or information on this exists, kindly post it.

    Regards,
    Dennis

    The 65 CFX Comet Question!!

Back in 1965 I was at the Drag Strips in the Detroit Area a lot, The Biggest area in the country for FX cars was Detroit area I seen AFX BFX cars, Never a CFX class. I seen 65 Comets Hipo ran C/S there wasn't a C/SS or C/SSA class back then.
We know Mercury produced 90 Comet Hipo cars plus or minus a couple, all had the A engine code like the 289ci 225hp cars. The AFX, BFX, CFX, Cape Horn to Fairbanks cars, Special Show Hipo Comets and the Comets that the public bought are all from that group of 90 Comets.
You guys do the Math! There has to be some Comets out there Someware?
I have the original Tech Books from Detroit Dragway from the 60s there hidden in the Black Hole which is filled Junk.

In the Detroit area where the tracks NHRA or AHRA tracks? There is a book that I have Super Stock “Drag Racing the Family Sedan”, in the book there are a lot of cars that raced C/FX.

Re CFX, I already stated I may be off on that, but will look for the documentation/photo.

BTW, how was it determined Mercury produced +/- 90 HiPo Comets? Is this documented anywhere, if so please post or indicate resource. Isn't the 65 Comet HiPo Metuchen car a blank and not A engine code vehicle?

Any comment re the build of 50 1965 Comet Drag Units at Stroppe? As you said, must be more of them out there. Similar scenario with the 1964 Lightweight Galaxies, Ford built 50, but only a handful of them have been documented today.
