I read the string about my surprisingly famous 57 Ford 2dr post altered wheelbase C/Altered called the Gunfighter, with great interest. Thank you all for the compliments and your interest in the car. I did sell the car in 1970 and raced a fibergl*** replica of a 69 Mustang, also as a C/Altered. The 57 was resold to a third owner who did infact discard the body and used the remaining ch***is in the sand. Aboy a year ago, one iof my good frinds made me buy a 57 2dr post, to recreate the "Gunfighter". The fdirst work party is scheduled for Feb 4th 2012. The big debate is wheather to create an exacy replica, or modernize it by building a 57 Ford bodied Pro Stock/ProMod cross. One of the goals is to compete in Hot Rod's drag week, and the fastest street car in America. My original car ran low 11's at 118 mph with a little injected 289. To compete in Drag Week, we would most likely habve to have over 600 cubic inches and run likely high 6 seconds at close to 200. So I ask for your input. Nastalgia is nice, but going fast is what drag racing is all about.
Build it the way that would make you happiest. There are some awfully fast small block strokers that would look original.
Build it up original style! Nothing beats an axle and an altered wheelbase! Welcome from Columbia, MO.
