  1. I'm thinking of taking the plunge on having a second set of wheels for the 35( er once I have my little problem solved with it) I have the chrome rims on it and have that early 60's vibe going.. But the more I see Halibrands or Real Rodder on cars I like that look also.. Anyone running Real Rodders' on their cars ? I'm looking into a set of Halibrands and it's get pricey, but Real Rodder aren't cheap either... large window, kidney bean ?

Not sure if this is the style you're referring to, but I got these Halibrand copies for my '33 Plymouth off Ebay, very reasonable...

I like spending your money, really a lot of fun. I am not wild about the chrome reverse wheels but I do think the Halibrands would look really nice on your 35.

I have Real Rodders on my '34. They are reeeeally nice wheels...kinda pricey, but made in the United States, unlike Halibrands.

    Good luck, -Abone.

  9. Thank you !

  10. Go the Real Rodders , I have them on my C 10 and sell these wheels for Pat in Australia .You get what you pay for with these wheels,I have been to the guys in LA who do the polishing with Pat and they do a great job, they really are a quality wheel and like the man says still made in the states . nice car by the way

    regards
    Brian

  11. Thanks Brian, really leaning towards the Real Rodder.. I don't want polished, Don't like the Dow Coating... Really want the old flat oxidated magnesium look. I had a set of o.g. Porsche magnesium gas burner wheels on o.t. car.. I gave up trying to keep the lips and fin edges polished.. it was loosing battle..

  12. I've detailed many hot rods over many years, and one thing I found was the "Real Rodders" stayed polished far better than the "Halibrands", or many other wheels. The quality of the aluminum is top notch, that's why they are pricey. You get what you pay for, a fine American made product. The wheel change, will be a dramatic change your car, it will make it more "Hot Rod", than "mild custom", in my opinion.

  13. Mate , talk to Pat about a machined finished wheel , i think that they would "age" with a little bit of time , I also have a set of the coated wheels and they grow on you

    good luck

    regards

Rob. Mine are 15X10 rear and 15X5.5 front. I think they might have two backspaces for teh rear, but thier website has all the specs.

Here are the 15X4.5 Halibrands with Buick drums.

That was too much drum hanging out there for my taste so I got a pair of th eReal Rodders 15X5.5s. Way better..

But, a fendered car like yours, it might not matter. Be prepared, though...the Real Rodders are ALOT more $$$ than the Chineese made Halibrands, but they are 100% made in the US made.

I think they would look kick ass on your car.

I have the small window fronts in cast ,Sprayed them with alumni blast ,Look great and match my rear halibrands..........

  17. That 15 X 5.5 looks really good, the more I look at the Real Rodders on you car I think thats the way to go. I know of a set of matching og Halibrands( gulp !) But I'm nervious about driving around a set of those that are 40+ years old and damaging one(replacing it hard ) Should I knick a replica wheel, no harm easy repair. Abone , what finish are you running ?.. Thanks Rob

I also vote Real Rodder wheels. Two years now, no polish, just light waxing 3 times a year. One hell of a polish on the wheels. Expensive but I think worth every penny.

  20. I say Halibrands.

  22. Flamedabone, is that a 165 sr 15 or 5.60 x 15 front tire on your car, looks great.

Here are the set of Real Rodder Wheels for the 1932 Chevrolet Roadster we are building. They are 15x5.5 Fronts and 15X12 Rears in the Brushed/Cast finish.

The front tires are 185/75x15 are 25.5" tall and almost 6" wide bulge to bulge.

The rear tires are 390/45x15 are 29.5" tall and almost 15" wide bulge to bulge.

I run these on our shop truck and love the traction and ride. They wear pretty fast being a Drag Radial but you cant beat the ride, grip and look!

Here is what they look like next to the frame for the Roadster.

One thing I have yet to see noted about Real vintage Halibrands is this, Yes they were absolutely bitchin' wheels and some of the best casting and machining... For their time. Casting and machine techniques have improved many fold since the fifties, and I would bet the Real Rodders wheels would be a hell of allot more true than any original Halibrands would be. Plus, with a set of fifty year old original wheels, there is always a strong chance that one or two have kissed a wall or two over the years. Oh, and then there is the not too common casting aclusions that cause the pinhole leaks you don't notice until you walk out from work the day after you mount them. That said, I have put lots of miles on original mag Halibrands in years past, but for a hot rod for modern use I think I would go Real Rodders wheels...
