Is that usually the case? I haven't seen a lot of people talk about the transmission's weaknesses.. Just trying to learn what I can.

  2. All that ol Ford shit breaks ;)

The cases do break, and the "fat bellied" case like shown above is stronger. With a nice torquey engine the case can split all the way around right were the bell meets the very front opening on the top. So Ford put an extra fat "belly" in em to stiffen em up a little. I really do not know when they came out with that and what they went into.

But, I also have some trannys that are pretty screwed up inside and look fine from the outside.

  3. From what I have read that is one of the problems. I think the gears try and climb themselves and break the case with to much HP and tq. But I can't find the source for the life of me.

I believe the pot bellied case is a truck case originally or so I've read.

  5. Model A and 32-early 33 rear ends do the same thing. They do not have a pinion support bearing, and the pinion gear tries to climb the ring gear. BANG!!

  6. Does anyone know of a decent upholster in Spokane that is fairly inexspensive? I need the seat bottom in the car done, the rest is fairly nice and "school bus seat green". I need something to look decent and get by, the interior will be getting redone down the road so I do not want to plunk a bunch of money into it.

Best of luck! I am trying to get my 50 up and rolling before my wedding in July, but my DD and income are holding me back!

  12. Well, I spent the evening shoveling snow after our little snow storm we had. I did manage to rebuild the shift tower. I took it all apart, cleaned it and put it back together with new balls and springs. A simple task, something that should be done with all rebuilds. It should make for a good, solid shift.

I should get my trans case tomorrow so I can toss the whole thing together

  13. I got my heads back from the machine shop today. The heads are really nice with very little use, but I wanted them surfaced anyways just for saftey measures. Now I have a little more cleaning to do on em, then bolt em on :D

Does anyone know if the "SF" means anything on the bottom of the water neck or if someone stamped thier initials in em?

I know an upholstery lady that does decent work for cheap. She did the seats for my wagon and the entire interior for a friend. She only charged me $350 for both front and back seat of the wagon and all I gave her were bare frames. She's moved since she did my seats, but I have her email address and I'll try to get her number from my buddy.

Wonder if the SF was a signature for the foundry that cast them? S???? Foundry.

Or maybe something with them being a Street version? But then as we were talking about yesterday when did edmunds make anything for race prepped?

  16. Another thing JJ is that I have read that ALL Edmunds stuff was polished. These are barley used and do not look like they have ever been polished. On the close up pic on the "Edmunds" you can see little casting nubs between the fins in a couple spots.

  17. Cool, lemme know whenever, I am BROKE BROKE BROKE right now...I paid the 34 off a couple days ago so that felt GREAT!!!...but I am drained money wise right now :D Hope to have the seat looked at in the next month or 2

  18. Looking good Chris! I'm jealous. I have my feelers out now looking for the pieces I'm missing for my mock up. It's exciting to look. Can't wait to get started!

Can't wait to see your car when that axle goes in. What is your plan to get the rear down? I bought an extra rear crossmember in case I need to modify. I also have a nice 41 front spring with reversed eyes. Not sure on rear yet. I don't have a extra banjo and toying with the idea of a later rear to mak a real driver. Spokane here I come!

I'm also looking for an old 4 speed too. We'll see... My budget is shit at moment too, so I could use a 39 trans and all the adapter goodies I already have. The build would sure go faster too. I got my eyes peeled, we'll see what turns up.

    Looking good, go man go!

  19. Let me know if you need any help, parts or pieces along the way. I'd love to help you finish the roadster. As for a cheap upholster, Mike Rojan had the prison out in Geiger do the upholstery in his RPU back in 2005 and all he had to pay for the material. It might be worth looking into.

    i seriously doubt that!

  21. OK, getting the engine buttoned up tonight. I still have to rig up a crank pulley (easy). The transmission is ready to go back together, waiting on a gasket set for it to show up Monday or Tuesday. After that, she can go in the car!!!!!

  22. Chris, As far as the skins go for the seat. Talk to Rob who mentioned it earlier here in the thread. The guy he is talking about is a friend of both of us and he does really decent work for a reasonable price. His name is Bitchin' Bob. That should tell you something. You can get your seat to Tacoma can't you? Did I miss something? Your going with the Edmunds heads now? The SF on the water neck was most likely the customer who they were intended for back in the day. I could be wrong though.

Man that's a bad ass roadster!

  24. That engine looks nice!

  25. Is it me or are the head studs not all the way through the nuts? Does it matter?

Really like the look Chris....making me antsy....

  27. Nuts are not tight. A couple studs have the nuts above the top of the stud, I'm gonna see what my dad thinks. The head bolt washers are really thick, and the nuts are really tall... Makes em not quite flush

  28. Got the tranny put together. Still waiting on a gasket set so I can put the front and rear bearing retainer on, then bolt her on! Seems to bench shift nice!!!
