I can see the resemblance though, now that you mention it. The late-50s Ramblers had that reverse angle on the rear pillars too. Never made the connection before.

Hi all, seems you guys might be the authority on all things Rambler. Back in the Febuary 2010 issue of Rod and Custom, Kieth Stephens '64 Rambler aritcle has the following picture, does anybody know if the mirror shown below is OEM for the Rambler, or aftermarket? I'd like to find a pair of these for my current project, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

They were going to crush that car? Outrageous! Good job saving it. Even if you just hang on to it long enough to find a buyer, you did a great service to the car guy community.

Bumping to ask if anyone can tell what size or type of wheels those are? Looking for something different for my 63 Ambo than steel wheels. Also what size tires, not sure what's going on but the 14s I have just look too small for the car, the well looks empty.

 

They came with 15s optional, but you can put anything on there. Bolt pattern is the same for AMC/Chrysler/Ford/most Jeeps/Toyota trucks. 5 lugs, 4.5" bolt circle (5x4.5"). Those are cheap steel truck wheels. You have lots of choices! 16/17/18 would look good, but I hate the really big wheels with rubber bands on them!! Get at least a 55 series tire so you have a bit of rubber to help cushion the ride.

 

On this picture, the tires are 215/70/14.
The steel wheels were on a Oldsmobile Touring Sedan 1988, it s also the same bolt pattern.
Cheap steel truck wheels, but I like them.

 

Maybe it's just the square fenders on the later ones, but I think that's the same size tires I have.

 

I was about to ask if you were sure about the Olds, as they use a different (Chevy) wheel bolt pattern, but then I remembered that most of those wheels were made with Chevy and Ford bolt patterns so they would fit both. They don't look bad on the car. And the size looks about right for that vintage car. I run 215/65R15 tires on mine (my avatar).

 

I m 100% sure about the Olds pattern. It was a good friend s car, I ve even see the car running with those wheels

Now that's a 63 only hardtop American. Only came with the 196 in it. A small block can be stuffed in one with minimal cutting, but it's TIGHT!! I can;t see sticking the old 56-66 Rambler V-8 in one -- that thing is physically the size of a 396 Chevy or old Y-block Ford. Would be MUCH TIGHTER than a more modern small block, plus weigh a good bit more. There was a dual carb intake made by Offy for the old 196 six -- I bet they ran the little six in a class with other small engines.
