Hey guys , does anyone have pictures or any articles on turning a 32 five window into a Cabriolet . I have a 32 five window coupe body that had the top cut off years ago . I have searched for a roof top for a while with no luck . I even looked for a rough four door sedan body for the top...nothing . So I think I'm going for the Cabriolet body build now .

I need close up pics of the B post area and panel above the deck lid . thanks guys .

Anyone have the Tops of the B post they want to sell ??

It'd be a lot less work and a better car if you bought a new roof from those guys in Sweden.

What kind of money are we talking for a roof ? All I need is a rough 4 door sedan roof or body and I'm good . Nobody seems to have one or wants to sell one . The 32 I have is pretty rough , I'll post some pics

  7. I bought a header off a guy on here that had a few rear roof sections for sale.

Do you want a coupe or a cab?

I've been looking for 3+ yrs now . I traded a 32 ford pu cab , firewall , fenders , bed , etc and a very nice 1935 ford 1 1/2 ton flathead not rust for the 32 body . I scraped 2 five gallon pails of bondo off one side . I got pissed , but what are you going to do .

The doors hinge in a different place the belt molding is way different. :)
I believe I would just buy a roof section and build the 5W

good pics , any of the back panel , door tops and B posts .

it's off topic but here is a pic of the coupe I build from a four door sedan . If I can get my hands on a 32 four door body I will be golden .

blindowl, there are plenty of hambers on here who have couperiolets. Me included! mine was "built" in 1959. F&J already posted about his, and tomt has one.

I wish you had posted this up last week as there was just a 32 5 window body listed on craigslist for 1800 in eastern ma. it was ROUGH but I bet you could have ended up with a whole car. I thought long and hard about it myself but I don't want to go back that far in my build. I already started a carson top for it.

where in mass are you?? I'm from the springfield area and so is hammeredt who has a pretty rough real cabriolet that HAD to be a magazine car at some point. F&J is out of ct and has done some great work on his car. the question is what do you want to end up with?? you can make a 5 window body "close" but they are completely different so there is no way you could make a car that fooled anyone if it sat next to a real one. there is no doubt that a 5 window will be worth more when done than a cut down but if it's done right I think they look great!

I think the four of us (me, hammeredt, F&J and you) need to plan a get together if the timing and locations can be worked out. Maybe a garage crawl could be planned for the spring time

I saw that 1800 $ 32 coupe body in person . It was pretty bad and not worth it to me . I think the 32 body I have was put together from a few cars . I was told it was from NY somewhere , there's is a lot of brazing and lead too .

    I'm in Danvers,ma about 10 min from Salem .

at least you got to look at it. do you know if it was the same one listed last summer/fall?? that one supposedly had enough "parts" to make a complete body minus moldings.

danvers is a bit of a hike from western mass. I'm not sure where exactly F&J is located in Ct. you ever go to marks cruise night in the summer??

I changed my 29 5 Window coupe into a 29 Business coupe ( similar to a Sport Coupe ) = easy to do and 32 Sport Coupes are seldom seen

I converted a '32 sport coupe body into a cabriolet. The toughest parts I think would be adding the lip around the rear of the cockpit and the fact that the cabriolets had a square top windshield frame while your 5 window has rounded corners at the top. Fortunately, my sport coupe body used a square top windshield as well. It can be done. I used new top bows and triple hinges for a '31 cabriolet which are commonly available. Good luck on your project whichever way you decide to go.

A cabrio sounds cool! There was one built in the 50's that was bad ass!! I think the car was from the north east.

There is not much similar in the 32 cabriolet and the 5 window, biggest thing to note is the cabrio doors are 1 5/8" longer than the 5 window or 4 dr sedan, cabrio has no reveal on top of qtr, quarters are wider at the sides of the lid, panel below lid is narrower, remember the cabrio body was built by murry not ford, the list goes on it will never look right, find a roof for the body

Ah, what the heck do you know about cabriolets....:D

...and yes I saved the ebay pics to figure out some of the door mods I needed to do on my lowly coupster. 59 Chevy truck side window frames from Jim, eh?;)

    beautiful colors, BTW

We are just salvaging some use for the old hacked up worthless bodies, none of us seem to have the thought that we are trying to make "it look right", or fool someone. Looking right can mean other things to other people.

I would never have guessed there would have been so many '32 cabrios in the same area. I am definitly up for a garage crawl.

Revkev, we should get together soon. I may be working on the T in Westfield this Sat if your around. I have still not gotten it running right- but I have not worked on it since we met on the side of the road so I can't complain that it is not done.

I am gathering parts for the build. Slow but steady. I have a line on a GEORGEOUS set of original rails, but since mine is channeled, I don't think I can bring myself to cut them up.

I agree with the others- find a top and make it a coupe again.

Bet you're thinking of the Wilhour '32 out of Westport Ct. There was a shot of it here on the Hamb and over on the Dover Drag Strip website.
