South Paw, Thank You!!!! The bus with the #5 is a 1953 White. One of two that were factory demonstrators with NHH-220 Cummins Diesel engines under the floor in the middle of the coach. It came from Wash, DC. My family was in the bus business in North Bergen NJ and owned this bus from 1953 to 1964. The #5 route was from Journal Square in Jersey City to the Port Authority building in NYC, thru the Lincoln Tunnel. At the time the 50 or so buses on the North Bolevard line were owned by individual operators and were operated as a pool system where everyone shared in the revenue based on the amount of runs that were assigned. This bus was mostly kept on the #4 or #5 NYC line because it could run up out of the tunnel with a swinging load in high gear, where the GM's would struggle up the ramp.

These next pictures are of the same bus in front of the garage in North Bergen in 1964.

"Now here's a PERFECT example of NEGATIVE towing".
He should be using a load equalizing hitch assy. to transfer more weight to the front of tow vehicle, by using the "bars" until trailer is level with load.
Its amazing how many people don't realize how dangerous this practice is!!!

So did Studebaker and many others.

Auburn, LaSalle, Cadillac, Packard, Buick, Lincoln, Pierce-Arrow, Nash, Bentley,

  11. I'm going to venture a guess by saying this might be how everything was prepped and shipped to Europe from North America/US.

A separate tow vehicle might've been used to move the 'trailers' seen in the picture and upon reaching final destination the cars are unloaded, and the the hauler reassembled.

    Just a guess though. . .

Wow, 'til you mentioned that, it wasn't obvious. You're sure right, shame.
But it seems to me that near-classic cars were still beig trashed in the mid-'50s! Whoa.

You're not blind. I think he meant lower middle of the pic. You really can see where the golf-bag door was. Wow, I wonder what car the panel really came from??? Kissel, Moon, Packard and lots of companies did this. They were grand, in the Roaring '20s and into the early '30s. I think they faded away when it was considered "decadent" in light of the woe of so many people during the Depression.

In the very lower left corner there are 2 doors standing up right infront of those doors under some of the fenders you can see the rear of a roadster with the Golf bag opening just forward of the right fender between the fender and door opening.I had forgotten Chrysler and a couple others had this door also.

A new car today with the golf bag door would sell. Then it would piss off all the poor folks just like back then.
