Why focus on just an engine? Why not a Man-A-Fre intake on a small journal 283 or 327 and a healthy roller cam? Sure to draw attention. If money is no object, put together an all aluminum Z-11.

  5. Boss 302 Foord, not a chevy motor but I've put a ton of Chevies in Fords so why not put a Ford in a Chevy.

I've seen one when I was about 12 years old. My Uncles friend had a barn full of camaros and he had a dusty old Copo Camaro sitting in the back with the Engine out so I got to see the entire motor in it's Silver Glory. Now that I'm 32 years old, I still remember that day vividly.

  7. I think the Jimmys are 270-302, the Chevy big Sixes are 292's. All fairly rare...and most folks have no idea they're looking at a 292 in my Biscayne! :)

You said it's a '52 Chev...and you want a rare motor for it. Silly question maybe...but why a rare motor?

Ford didn't make a "Ardun" motor. It was designed by the Father of the Corvette sold on the market as a conversion kit for flatheads. Chrysler copied the design for their Hemi engines. Heres a bio on Zora.

By the way, notice the name "Ardun is taken from (Ar)kus-(Dun)tov?!

  12. Chrysler didn't copy the design for the hemi. They had a hemi on the boards for a very long time without any outside help.

    Yes, there is.

In the late fifties, Ed Cole convinced GM to manufacture an all-aluminum engine
This was cast in the exact same mold as the cast iron 283 and did not use any steel liners. The entire unit weighed only 350 lbs. and developed 350 hp. A modified version of GM's fuel injection was used.

A few of these engines were released to the general public. The all-aluminum 283 was
being considered as an option for the 1960 Corvette. The 11:1 compression aluminum heads did make it as an option on the fuel injected engine but were discontinued after one year.

 Wow thats awesome thanks for the info!

  16. Duntov didn't make engines he was an engineer that worked for GM. An engine may have Dontov designed parts in it or parts that he directed the design of like say a duntov cam, but there is no such a thing as a duntov engine.

This is correct. Of course you may hear someone refer to their Chevy motor as being a "Duntov" engine, there is no such thing. As it is pointed out there is a Duntov cam. And even though Duntov is called the "Father of the Corvette", he had nothing to do with the birth of the Corvette. He wasn't even working for GM at that time. But he did turn the Corvette from a sluggish sports car into a fast machine.

  22. A good motor to rival a Ford? what nonsense....they made so few good motors that you'll only see them in a museum...
Get yourself a"Rocket block"-[GMCounter sales only] small block displaces 454 cu inches in stock form [raised the cam bores]and is capable of 125 thousandths overbore from there...now thats hard to"rival" as well as hard to beat anywhere you go....rival that.

This is a "Lockport" cast GM 052 ZL1 from 1970 cast out of the original 69 ZL1 molds. Less of these made than the original ZL1 run...

Aftermarket, I know. The Arias Hemi Head on a BBC is a damn good looking old piece. They are available again, one of the hottest setups in Pro Modified. Also made for the SBC nowadays. If you have deep pockets.

The Moser overhead cam conversion as run by Tom McMullen should qualify as a rare one.

  26. An 83 corvette engine would be rare.
