Finally got to see the Howerton roadster since SoCal finished it - WOW! I thought it looked good when Jackie made it but the finished SoCal car is flat amazing. That said, Roy Brizio's '32 is the best deuce I think I have ever seen. If I had to have one to drive (as these cars should be) I think I would have to choose Brizio's but for pure automotive art the Lindig/Howerton/SoCal Indy Speedster is hard to beat. It will be interesting to see how the judging goes.
I don't know what the other cars look like, but so far the Brizio car is my pick. Could someone tell us the history on the wheels, are the new repros or old restored ones, if so, how old? They look like Halibrand wheels used on Cumnninghams and 1950's INDY cars.
The Brizio is my pick. The other kind of loses its character without the body lines. Looks more like a molded car. IMHO.
goin into the show I'd have had to pick the Howerton/ Lindig, Indy Speedster( been in love with the car for years), but to me the paint doesn't compliment the bodylines, and the interior is a little too busy for me. The Brizio/Gloy 32 looks amaaaaazing...but I havin seen all the contenders...I really hope Sylvester III wins it. WOW that car is GEORGEOUS!! just my .02
I love the Brizio built car, but I'm afraid the SoCal Indy influenced car just may have too many tricks to beat. It's the Brizio deuce for me though.
I'd give the nod to the Brizio built car. IMHO simple is better. As far as the wheels, they kind of look like the the So-Cal knock offs they make or the PS engineering ones.
both cars are amazing and to see them in the same shots allows for a great comparison in styles. From yesterday pictures I thought the brizio built car was my favorite (did not know who had built it) but now looking at the track roadster and having seen it a few times during its build, it has been thinking twice.. If I had to have one to drive, I would have to still go with the brizio built car. but damn I love track nosed roadsters.. (would not want to have to keep up the polished nose and hood)
Somebody tell me about the shocks on the Brizio car. Are they commercially available units or custom?
Both are beautiful cars but there is something unworldly about them. Maybe they are just o well done. I like something that looks like it could be driven and not worried about but still be stunning. If I had a vote it would go to this T. For me it is about as good as it gets. By weslake at 2012-01-28
I keep looking at the Brizio car because there are so many things that are different, we all know what a '32 Ford has. The SoCal built car is a one off so you can't compair the two builds. I sure wouldn't want to be on that judging team.
I like them both but the SoCal built T looses something from the drawing when you put those colors on the real thing and put it under the harsh lights of that building. I'm really liking the idea that both cars are sitting with four tires on the floor in simple displays and not set up on some mega dollar show display that almost overpowers the car. Lets see the rest of the contenders.
Both cars are truly beautiful works of art. Just paint the chrome hinges of the Brizio car and it will be the more appealling of the two as it's more of a traditional look. JMO
Thanks! I set that as a slide show, guess that is the next best thing to being there, thanks again for posting the photos. Bob
Tom Gloy '32 is cool. I loved the Indy Speedster pre paint but now it is tacky. The numbers look plain shitty. Gold leaf over silver would of looked rad. My personnel favourite is the Sylvester III '32. Dave Lindsay photo Dave Lindsay photo
I don't know how "loose" the SoCal T is, but the schnoz is way too big, and the paint job just emphasizes this. Sylvester has great lines, the tire choice is neat, but under the lights there's too much chrome on the nailhead, and it just dazzles the eyes. In person, the Marmon is just gorgeous, but there's not enough Hot Rod in it. Stock semi-elleptic front springs, ancient carbs with cute little 1/4" fuel lines, etc. It looks like he just took a Pebble Beach car, pulled off the rear fenders and put bling wheels on it. Maybe if he had stuck on 16 Hilborn injector stacks... I don't know which I'd vote for, my brain had gone into overload by the time we'd gotten to the main building. Maybe throw 'em all in a sack, shake it up and come out with something with a flatty, Halibrand kidney beans, and whitewall slicks.
given the choices ,I'd go with Brizio Jim ,you have quite the MG project going on. like to see it done
I'm just glad traditional style cars seem to be taking over from the super gaudy crap from past years.
Thanks Gary. Nobody wants to see it done more than me. Spent the afternoon working on the windshield frame, I'll probably have a month tied up in it before it's done. It was good taking a day off and seeing the products of some REALLY talented people.
