Rats, yuck! rats are the only animal that pees in their own nest. I had a set of steel wheels stored in a shed, and made the mistake of laying a small tarp folded on top of the wheels. Rats made a nest in the tarp and the dripping from them totally destroyed all four wheels. Rat pee is very caustic.
a real nice set of 4 could go over $100.00 easy. I've had a few, for as little as $10.00 at a swap meet, probably averaged 20 bucks each to get the set I had on my car I sold. but I'm a cheap bastard and like looking for bargains.

I can't tell from the pictures, but is that a Standard or a deLuxe? The reason I ask is because they came with two completely different front suspension systems. The Standards had a straight axle, while the deLuxes had what Chevrolet called "knee-action". Years ago, I had a friend that had one of these with knee-action. It was not one of the General's better ideas. I don't know about today, but back then parts were impossible to find. We ended up putting a straight axle out of a Standard into it. It was a great improvement. If you have a straight axle, you should probably keep it, but if you have knee-action, it will probably have to be changed out. I have never been a fan of sub-framing in general and MII's in particular, but if you have to go that way, I would check around to see who has done one and what they used and how it worked out. Back in the early '60's, this guy and I car-pooled to the University of Minnesota. One week, I would drive my '52 Ford, and the next, he would drive that Chevy. Every day, rain or shine, from September through May, 15 miles each way. Both cars handled it well.
This car is a standard it has the axle. A dead give away is the one tail light on the left. If you look at the right tail light someone added you will see it is cocked. That is because it is from a sedan not a coupe.Back to your point it is a standard with a well worn axle and the small outter bearings. What are the down falls of the mII for a driver car? I am thinking of saving money. I have a old M II here all stock ?
That's a dead ringer for my grandfather's first car. I'd love to own a '38 Chevrolet. On a coupe, I'd be leaning toward a mild, late-fifties/early-sixties, street-driven hot rod look: cool metallic color (green or blue), nose-down stance, chrome steel wheels, 389 Pontiac or Buick Nailhead, and a four-speed. Well that being the case I have a "rat rod" motor in the basement. It had a nest in one of the pistons. Pretty cool old heap great start for a real hot rod.
i can't stand mice nor rats. i had to sell off a couple of cars since they made their home in the projects.

The blue one is a '37. Only '37s and '38s have that character line in the side. The '37 has vertical grille bars and the '38 has horizontal. -Dave

Got back on the 38 today I had my Dad come over and help,he loves old cars and it was his 81st birthday. I thought it would be a great way to celebrate so I took a day off work and he and I spent the day together. I will never forget this day with him.
Don't take this lightly. There a number of illnesses that can be caught from rat urine and feces. Leptospirosis is probably more common and is seen in most country's. It is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. One of the biggest issues is that it is still relatively a 'new' disease and as a consequence is more often than not miss diagnosed. It begins with severe common cold symptoms and without the correct treatment leads rapidly to kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, respiratory distress, and even death. I watches two people die from this 12 months ago so believe me it does happen. Then there is the good old Plague a bacteria based illness, this is still a live disease within the U.S.A. Rat-Bite Fever Salmonellosis Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (There is 4or5 other versions of this) Tularemia (Read this one!!) This shit is no joke and is killing more people every year, don't add your name to the list! Doc.
What he says plus Hantavirus - ask me how I know. I have had it about five times before I figured it out after researching on the internet and got shit scared at what I read. I chewed my family doctor out for shrugging his shoulders when I told him on more than one occasion of my symptoms. 104˚ fever, kidney pain passing blood in urine - feels like you're pissing razor blades, blinding headache, raging sore throat, burning up internally with violent shivers. It is airborne so if you disturb, vacuum or sweep the droppings up or touch the urine it becomes airborne and you risk inhaling it. Do NOT put this under 'it won't happen to me' and 'never had a problem' label. This could kill you.... ONE IN THREE PEOPLE WHO GET HANTAVIRUS DIE FROM IT!
