Well I stated the car would be dark green with black steel wheels? I decided for this car it would look better in a lighter body color. like almond. The wheels will follow the same almond color, but for the fenders I am gonna stay with black on them. I also had a little time to work on the 27 so I finished welding up the dash panel and finished up the body and paint for it using the colors I said above. Have a look.
Well I have had three different style of wheels and I think I like the painted steel wheels with the rings and caps the best. They are almond in color with firestone radials on them. As I said in another thread I aquired another early 283 engine with a turbo 400 trans and this one has a little more kick than the 67 nova 283 and powerglide that is in the 27 now. I am going to start the tear down of the 27 and now is the time to redo the trans mount and drive shaft.
Well finally got a burst of energy and decided to tear apart the 27 for it's final push. I have a lot of finish welding to do on all the lower frame areas and the lower body. and a lot of cleaning and finish work. so here goes. John
Well I finally drove the 28 chevy (that I don't own anymore). But I'm still building it. And it got me fired up to start on my 27 chevy again. So I stripped the frame bare and finished all the welding on it. I then stripped the nine inch of it's parts and finished all the welding on it. Now on to the cleaning of the front suspension parts. Hopefully in the next few weeks they will all be cleaned, and painted. Then I can start to get this one to a driving point also.
Its been awhile for this build, but the bottom side of the body is finished, all the suspension parts are painted, and I have been waiting for my hot rod funds to show up. NO JOY. So i decided to start on cleaning the rust off the frame myself instead of blasting it. This way I can save a few bucks and stay busy on the project.
It's a magnum 4 inch dropped axle, utilizing a model A crossmember, and transverse spring setup. And yes there are front shocks. I have them, but they were not installed yet.
Glad to see an update on your build. One of these days I will own one of these and this build thread will sure come in handy!
The frame is finally painted I sure don't work as fast as I used to. A friend came over and we shared duty on the painting. I guess I'll let it cure for a few days and then start the assembly of the chassis. Any progress is good times.

Where did you pickup the gauge set and for how much? Anu\y one know if there are gauges to fit in place of the original 30's chevy dash without cutting?
The guages are OMEGA KUSTOM, MADE IN THE USA With a mechanical speedo. I got them from speedway for $200.00 for the 5 guage set, and the matching tach was an additional $80.00. I will be using a column mount cup for the tach. I dont know of a direct guage fit for the early dashes. I usually just modify the dash to fit the guages.
Sounds good! After my blistering performance last year, I doubt that I'll need a chute (hardly need brakes, ha!) That hemi roadster was fun to watch last year! Is it August yet?!
I might keep the tunnel ram if I can keep it under the hood. I got the brake lines, and assorted other brake items ran. So decided to set the engine and trans in place. It slid right in, and there was no modificatoion needed from the powerglide to the turbo 350. Just a little filing on the bolt hole of the crossmember. The engine paint looks like primer ,but it's actually a finish color I had laying around. The body of the car will now be a darker silver grey.

Wel after chasing down a few leaks in the braking, mostly under tightening on my part. I ran and mounted the fuel lines and filters, and started fitting the 15 gallon fuel tank once that is done, I will paint it black and install it. A friend decided to help me out with the grille insert using a piece of brushed stainless, he lazor cut a gazillion 1 inch bow ties in it, actually 540 of them to be exact. The last chevy I owned, because of the extensive custom work done to it, everyone kept calling it an Essex. Not this time. This ought to protect the radiator.
Thanks guys. Well it's official on the color for now. We painted the fuel tank today and decided to scuff and shoot the wheels black since we had the paint out. We bled the brakes, and found the rear wheel cylinders were leaking. I knew I should have replaced them with everything else being new. The good news I got out of Napa with 2 new wheel cylinders for my nine inch, and a new cable for the self adjuster for $15.00. I must be living right, or they gave me a hell of a discount.
