I'd like to try and fill the tack strip recess or whatever its called on the roof side with a drip rail...kinda kill 2 birds, one stone etc. I thought I saw someone selling drip rails on here somewhere but can't locate the add. I've seen a few guys use some small sheet channel but it looks boxy. I may try my hand at running some strips through my bead roller but I don't think I have dies that will create a full U (more like a J really..). Hmmm....anyone have a good solution on this one? I have a 30 Tudor. Thanks, Dave
Might of been my ad you saw, I was making driprails for 32s, not exact style for an A but would work fine. I quit making them now that they are availible from China, not going to compete price wise. Whatever you do, I'd advise staying away from the aluminum ones from Mac's and other suppliers. They intend for you to bend them to fit, preety much impossible without kinking, and then nailing them on. I tried to help a friend install a set, we ended up throwing them in the trash.
There are some on the Fordbarn, right now. I used the aluminum drip rails on my sedan with good luck... It takes a little time and patience to bend them to fit correctly, but it is not that tough to do. I had no problems nailing them in place either. Now... The finish strips that run from side to side are a lot tougher to install and make look good. Again, not to tough to bend to the correct shape but the problem with these pieces is in folding the tops closed to hid the nails.
Cutting Unistrut would definitely be easier than trying to roll a set. I'll have to checkout home depot tomorrow. If anyone's done this, which profile did you use? http://www.unistrut.us/index.php
United Pacific that makes the steel 5 window 32 sells drip rails. They are 32s, not A's, but might work for you.
Glad I still have mine , that reminds me i need to get to repairing them. without them the A's just dont look right. I'll keep my eyes pealed for a set in my travels, I'll let you know if I run across any
yblock, my PM won't send so consider this a response to your PM "Any idea of thickness/gauge? I'd probably weld them in as I don't have wood in my car...just square tube steel taking its place. Any idea of what you want for them? I think shipping 75" might get real spendy....I'd say maybe cut them in half for shipping and I can re-weld them if they are thick enough steel to weld..... Thanks, Dave"
I got some at Sac Vintage Ford a few years ago--seems like they were 4' long--made a wooden buck to shape them for use on a 40 woody-took my time and they turned out fine
May not be to everyone's liking, but I made mine out of some spare window trim that I got with my A. I just flipped them around so they were effectively "inside-out" and had to add a bit more curve. More pics & info here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=536602
Checked with ups yesterday, they can put two 6x6x48" boxes together and ship that way, will get the cost today, i'm preaty sure these are 30-31. Bought some stuff from a guy who was doing a 30 sedan. Did you measure your body?
Dave, got a 6" heavy cardboard carpet tube, $30 to ship, my friggin cameras on the blink, but could get a buddy of mine to take pics this weekend.
Anybody got any additional recommendations on vendors of repop steel drip rails...28 Ford Tudor Sedan
