This pic of the Mallicoat Bros car makes me sad everytime I see it. Back about the late '80's this car was absolutely complete, being bracket raced locally with an injected 392 hemi and was virtually untouched, right down the Halibrands and everything, then it came up for sale for about $3300 minus the engine. I knew full well it was a screaming deal and a chance to own a piece of history, but didn't buy it. The next time I saw it was at the Goodguys Sears Point race, being owned again by the Mallicoats. I heard it later burned to the ground, but don't know that for sure.

Car was ahead of its time. It was silent too; the car in the other lane would drown it out. To launch it required a certain technique. Driver Tom Chamblais commented on the protocol in staging, when to leave etc as it responded differently than a blown car. It would sort lug or stagger if you didnt leave the line properly. At the time the NHRA was wanting to incite more turbo cars so they created a seperate class after a while. At the time of this car's reign, it was initially categorized as a BB/A. It was the previous 69 Cuda but with one piece shell.

this pic was taken just a few yards from where the galloping ghost crashed into the box seats during the reno air races.

I always thought this was a dumb thing to do to one of the 201 Z-16 Chevelles.I wonder if it survived.

  22. I once saw this car go off the end of KCIR when his chute didn't open. Did a Flying Walenda over the creek that ran across the end of the track and landed nose first into the far bank. I wonder if this is that incident or if he was a frequent flier. The filename doesn't give any clue...any details?

    Nice shots.Big crowd.
The SS&DI nats were moved to NY from York.
That only lasted a couple years at NY,didn't it?

Some great cars in the pics.
    Always liked Al Joniecs Batcar
Is that Mel Perry's Chevelle or maybe Bobby Wood.
    I can't really tell.

It baffles me to this day why I never made it to one of those meets.:(

Is this an Austin? I know where there is a 49 Coupe. Appears to be a old drag car? I'll get pictures and post them tomorrow. This car has a Montana title?
