A buddy of mine said we should film all these idiots who we run into and call that video, "Vintage Iron and the Assholes who own them!" only $19.99!

I mean what the heck is with all these guys that have stuff but would rather let it sit and rust, or just collect dust in so called, "storage" and never see the light of day! They run off their long list of crap they own and gloat like little Donald Trumps! Better yet are these guys who rope you into stopping by their place to take a look at their shit giving you the line of, "yeah that's cool, i'd be willing to get rid of it, not asking much really,..." then you get there and suddenly they have this million dollar revelation or something and they start laying on the shit nice and heavy with stuff like, "well I paid well over $300 for that old model "A" tudor back in 1970,..." yeah right buddy,....meanwhile it keeps on rusting as it sits outside,..uncovered,..uncared for! Friggin' fruitcake!!!

    Nuttier than squirrel shit!

All these morons who are either as old as time with one foot on a banana peel and the other in the grave thinking they'll be taking their stuff with them,..... or better yet, this one cat who I just contacted about a '55 buick 2 door coupe,...guy can't read for shit, can't understand simple reasoning, and to boot he's an autobody instructor at a votec about and hour away from me! Means he gets paid a nice sum of around $70,000 a year or so. The guy can care less about the fact that I thought it would be cool to pick up so I and the kids I work with would get their hands dirty on some vintage iron in the classroom when I'm in from time to time as a "SUBSTITUTE" teacher and not a "FULL TIME INSTRUCTOR!!!',..as this dipshit completely missed the easily seen "SUBSTITUTE" in bold letters in my last email to him. Of course in his infinite wisdom he comments, "well you guys down there are well paid where you're at,.." Duuuh!,...read it again super genius! guess you don't have to read well to be able to be a teacher at the school he's working at!! Guess he never fully understood if ever, what it means to be blue collar or come from the wrong side of the tracks and make something out of nothing!

OK,..I just had to share all my angst with all of you who could relate, now I just have to pick up all the shards of my head after it has blown up from all the crap I've either heard, saw or read!....let the bitching commence! lol

i know how you feel. i dunno how many really cool cars are ready for fixin up for the grandkid/daughter/son/etc., that ive seen stay that way til the old fart dies and the car gets hauled away to the scrapper. personally i think its something of an obsessive compulsive disorder, like pack ratting.

my dad has even done this to me with an old vw that he more or less stole from my grandmother. and his brother did the same thing to a car i kept care of while he lived in another town. a very nice polara 500 convertible. i would wash/ wax it run it for a while etc. and hed maybe come up and see it once a year and thank me. well i turned legal driving age and asked if i could maybe buy the car or drive it a bit put some work into it at the same time. HELL NO was the answer, he said he put too much work into getting this car the way it is just to have a teenager turn around and wreck it later.

it was about that time i decided it was his responsibility to take care of it and i went back to getting around by skateboard. long story short, the car languished in front of my dads garage for years. wound up having no top, and huge holes in the floor. all the custom interior was ruined. the rear and front wheels were locked up tighter than a dicks hat band. the chrome and all the cool extra parts he had in the trunk and floor were toast too. well the uncle dies, and i was thinking, well theres not much, but it can be do-able. when ill be damned if my grandmother just gives the car to a friend of my uncle's. he subsequently uses it for parts for another project she hasnt heard from him since.

the moral here is, be realistic. you know if what you have is going to happen or not. maybe set yourself a date for completion even if it is years away, youll be honest about what your intentions are. in our house, if it hasnt been used, destroyed, or messed with in 3 years, its fair game for selling. odds are youre gonna make someone happy with your decision.

  10. Hey Kenny come to think of it can I come over and dig in your cool old rusty stuff? All I want is all your '34 parts.

Ya know I got a Bro in Law that's just one of those assholes; Hell he's got an A Bone he's had since High School and just got it on the road a couple of years back. I always wanted that car.

    Coaltown kid,
I feel for ya. I used to get all worked up too.......Then I actually collected some stuff.

Now I've got enough project material (lying around here ROTTING) to keep me busy for the next 25 years. :D

Hell, I'm not gonna sell it though, I worked too hard getting it....and "I'm gonna fix it up someday." Ha hahahaha....

I recently witnessed a junk yard get CRUSHED out. It had a bunch of early chevy trucks...Gmc's...an early 60's lincoln....volkswagons....Fairlanes...etc etc. I saved ONE vehicle from that place plus a Ford 9" rear. I waved bye bye to the rest and never blinked an eye. WHY?

CAUSE A PERSON CAN'T SAVE THEM ALL! Just be thankful for what you have.

    TINGLER :)

    in the end...

there is so much cooler to have a running hotrod even if its a 350 chevy in there

then to have 5 cars in parts even if you have an ardun engine on a crate, .... if you never get any of the cars together....

i just have to look on myself, i fucking have 11 cars... im 28 years old, ok still have time, but do i need 11 cars? no, maybe 3, but you know i'm gonna fix them up someday... :)

heck, if a cool kid in like 18-22 years old, steps up and asks me about buying a car, heck i would sell

but i do not wanna sell i mean i wouldnt mind selling but i don't advertise, i have a 1939 buick coupe next to my house alot of people have asked about it wanna buy it, when i say i will let it go for what i payed myself, which isnt for free but still not to much either, no one semes intrested heck if they would ask they would find out that i got tons of parts for it, 4 almost brand new 16" firestone wheels mounted on nice painted wheels, an working 1946 buick straight eight that goes with it, restored brakes, restored rear end, a better frame.. ok probally some darn shit missing but still ahwell maybe people wanna run a 350 anyhow but still..i would sell it for what i've put into it but most people seem to just think they can score a 400 dollar deal on something , i'm not unreasonable but whats the point selling something you dont really wanna sell for less what you gave for it, when it wasnt more then a fair price when i bought it... i think often the problem is that people are to pushy about asking about cars and give an real low bid on something, even here in sweden an 1939 buick coupe, well sold new in sweden, still in the register.. how easy would a car like that be to find, sure some rust, but not a basket case.. i'm into it for like 6000 dollars, i would let it go for what im into it, you just can't find a car like that for that price anyhow, if it was an 1939 ford and someone would want 12.000 dollars for it here in the same condition i bet it would sell, but then again this aint no 39 ford , its a 39 buick which in my eyes are cooler though... anyhow the moral of this mumble im talking about
as a horder myself... most people i've come across, think they can score for free with rediculus bids,
i aint running a wellfare center here, some shit i will never sell like my oldsmobile engine stuff, my lasalle transmissions, my 1930 ford coupe, my 1946 chrysler coupe, but aslong as i would get an fair price i will sell, but i won't advertise anything for sale unless im in the shit...

i know how it is to be "in love" with a car that i "someday gonna fix up", i suppose most people are like that that horde shit... but give em time.. if someone never had really an intention and someone jumps upp "agressivly" wanna buy one of their gems for next to nothing of course they wont sell it,

Coaltown Kid, you don't get it do you?

I am an old man with a bunch of stuff and I get approached almost daily about it.
They all are young and sound the same,You want to buy it for nothing and keep it a couple months till something else strikes your fancy( Harley ,Bass boat , R.V.,Monster truck, ect.) and sell it for a huge profit. Then brag to everyone how you bought it cheap and screwed over the old guy.

The problem with your generation is you have been raised without the ability to take responsibility for your self. Go back and read your post ,It is all about Me,Me, Me.I want this ,he isn't playing fair, Well life isn't fair.

If you really want an old car the world is full of them that are for sale, I suspect you want one that is nice without the nice price that goes along with it.

10 years ago I had a rust free 55 Plymouth ,a cheapy 6 stick with rubber mats ect. Motor was stuck but car was complete. A young man and his dad just about camped out at my garage wanting it for a Father /son project. They won me over and I gave them ( free)the car ,And delivered it with title to their garage. They tore it all apart ,interior ,window regulators, front and rear suspension, everything. It has set in that condition ever since.
Do I regret giving them the car,No I think they read too many Camaro Craft and Hot Rod magazines and the project grew larger than they could handle. The best part is a dozen people have tried to buy it in pieces, but guess what ,they won't sell because they are going to finish it .

    Go figure!!!

I've run into both: people that do... and the people that don't want to sell. The only time I get annoyed is the people who think they want to sell it but are asking a price that is insane.

  17. It's all about fame, control and in some cases loneliness.

Better to be known as the guy with the Deuce roadster sitting in the beachfront vacant lot next door, rusting it's way back to the earth than just the old guy who lives at the beach. (True story by the way.)

More than a few experiences lead me to believe these old cars are kept to attract people and gain at least a few minutes of conversation.

A few enjoy the power of saying no and get to walk away feeling superior.

My favorite was the two acres full of 40's, 50's 60's era cars with a few Model A's tossed in for good measure.
When asked about selling, the answer was, "Nope. Gonna fix em up."
Interesting part was, you could see into the big open pole barn, the open front garage and there was no sign of any car being worked on anywhere.
Every once in a while we'd drive by and see him sitting on his porch drinking beer and watching traffic.
Never did see him working on a car.

I guess for him the cars were honey and we were the flies.
Let it sit long enough though, the honey fades away and the flies no longer come around....

    Hello.

Now that the newbie greetings are out of the way....

I knew an old guy like this in Florida where I used to live, he had a 34 cabriolet, all original, rough and unrestored, I tried to buy it at least 50 times in different ways, he knew I wanted one so bad and would keep my promise to never sell it. He was one of the ones that loves to gloat and tease that he might sell it, "come on over and we'll talk", which never ended in even coming close to making a deal, just like Charlie Brown getting the football snatched away everytime, but going back for more every time also...

Then hurricane Frances struck, after going around helping with the damage a guy started talking about this "old car" laying "over there", I went to look and it was the cabriolet, it was an absolutely twisted smashed mangled piece of garbage, there was hardly anything that could be used, and all the small parts he had in boxes and the drivetrain that were all out of it were long gone, probably strewn everywhere in a 2 miles area....

After fucking me around on that car and basically always laughing in my face after each attempt to buy it I was going to have the last laugh. I had a friend hook onto it with a tow truck after telling the police we knew where it belonged and they were welcome to follow us, so they did, we drug it to what was left of his house and slid it up next to the curb....he was there, I said here's your fucking car you cock sucker......the police told him we didn't do anything to it, it was just as found.

His look and that moment was priceless.

  22. Jason, maybe it's about time you had a history lesson about people who lived through the Great Depression! They save even if they don't need it. Someday they might.

  23. Just in case you are doing market research on your idea, I can't afford the $19.99 for the video.

I have already exceeded my stupid purchase allowance on Saints season tickets.

Really? And what generation is that? Interesting how you seem to have this supernatural foresight into reading my mind and thoughts? Thanks for the input there houdini!

Maybe you're the one who should go back and read my post again, it wasn't about "me" nor was it about "he isn't playing fair",....but then with your repsonse I'm really not surprised you didn't get the obvious either.

Take care...... "oh mystical one!" Check your crystal ball I think its on the fritz.

    :D:D:D:D LOL

You know I've got a few things, all hidden, that I will never sell. My 34 3 widow that was my dads old hot rod, I keep tucked away, so people like you don't fuckin bother me about. Just sitting there in my home town, waiting, while I'm stationed halfway across the nation in the service. Will I ever sell it, HELL NO. The funny thing about guys like that, is if you give them a reasonable price on somthing you got they bitch about it, they think you should just give it to them to "RatRod"
Sure, here let me give you my most valued possesion that was my Dads HotRod from way back, that I've owned since I was 14 when he passed away So you can "RatRod" it, Just because I'm not using it right now. Yeah, fucking right. There's plent of shit out there. If a guy wants to keep his shit did you ever stop and maybe there's a reason. Find your own. Look at ebay, look in the classifieds, leave those older guys alone too, that car might have been the first car he got laid in, or the first car he won a street race in, etc...

What a chickenshit motherfucker you are.

I really don't understand you people. Sure, I've seen other peoples' cars that were wasting away in fields, creeks, garages, whatever. I would have loved to have one or two to call my own. But it's their car to do with as they please.

I wouldn't ever consider selling a car to a dork like you, or the thread starter; you're both just arrogant, snotty, spoiled-ass BRATS. Go put your noses in the corner and cry over there, I'm gonna call you both a whaaaaambulance.

One of the "old guys" you're talking about hit it on the head, I wouldn't want to see a car that I love get handed to someone who would just trash it out... I've seen that happen a hundred times.

There's a big difference between talking with a guy about something and then getting screwed once you've wasted your time heading over to see it,...and what you just described. the case with guys with shit they won't sell rarely has had to do with being a single car they own that has memories attached to it. its been more like three four or five cars or more that just either collect dust or rust just because they can.

In one case an old model a tudor that is sitting outside rusting. was told he started the thing back in 1970,..then it hasn't been even looked at till about a month ago. When asked waht kept him from it, he says, well I lost interest. Ok, so where's the heartfelt memories there? THAT is what I as talking about. Hell if I were you I woudn't sell that car you mentioned either. Cases like yours are far and few between,..or at least I haven't run into them! After telling me he lost interest he started gloating about all the cars he has in storage that he won't sell because maybe someday he'll sell them if the "right price" comes along??!!

BIG DIFFERENCE Drew,..big difference! But i fully agree with your about cars that have memories or belonged to loved ones!! They're very special things that should stay in the family!
