I like those wheels. Are the Billet Specialties Vintecs?

Radial spokes on bicycle and motorcycle wheels are known to not handle torque braking or accelerating) for long cause the spokes try to tilt and bend. Wire wheels with non-radial spokes orient the spokes so torque puts them in tension.

If these are real wire wheels ( no steel disc in behind to transmit maximum torquage) then I think the spokes will loosen and fail pretty quick driven on the road.

Wheels with hub brakes and drive wheels should never be radially spoked. Due to the near-perpendicular angle of the spoke to the hub's tangent, any torque applied at the hub of a radial spoked wheel will result in a very great increase in spoke tension, almost certainly causing hub or spoke failure.

here's a radial spoke story from a pretty entertaining bicycle page. http://sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html#illustrations
[Yet another note from John Allen: I have seen such a wheel. To protect the guilty, I will not say who built it. No, it wasn't Sheldon. A friend and I inspected the bike. He held the front brake and pushed down on a pedal with his foot. The spokes of the rear wheel changed angle noticeably, pinging as they rotated in the spoke holes of the hub, and ringing with rising musical pitch like an electric guitar when the player pulls up on the tremolo bar.]

I found this on Sheldon Brown site a long time ago.

Bringing this post back, heres some pics of my project and the reason i've wanted one for so long. Hey jguff, your 65 is a twin to mine, where did you find a trailer hitch? I want to tow a vintage airstream, but can't find a hitch. Slimegreeeeen, what happened to your sweet ride to make it gone but not forgotten, wrecked or sold? Brian

Sylvian, I just checked out your profile pics, wow, you have some beautiful cars, but you have the Adonis! I'm a huge A-Bros fan, my 2 favorite cars are the Adonis and the Golden Indian, I got a chance ride with Lou in the Indian a few years ago and it was amazing. The avatar pic was the Chevorado, a sweet wheelstander with a Eldorado engine and tranny in the back, I saw it as a kid and thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Brian

Hot Rods & Custom Stuff (in Escondido, CA) built a bitchin' black, chopped '65 for a customer in the midwest. Take a look at the webpage at: http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/projects/dave-younger-s-65-riviera.html
After you read the story, click on, "Click here to see..." on the right side of the page and you'll see a bunch of photos showing how it went from a pig with fresh lipstick to this kickass ride.

Ugly wheels and they took out the Nailhead, I'll say they could have done a lot better than that.

    Love it!

  24. I'm bummed. My 63 is my daily driver. I was going to bag it ( saving the money) but, has now developed a knock in the lower end. Sounds like a worn bearing so no damage. Luckily, I live close to work so I can ride my 65 Stingray to work.
I'm going to have the motor rebuilt and I'm looking for someone around the LA area thats framilar with nailheads... Any leads???
Also, Anyone out there find or ever run a tri power setup on a Riv? I know there's clearance issues with the hood. Or whats the best 2x4 setup on the market.
I figured I may as well do it now, All in one shot.

I just found this one in a impound yard near Dayton ,Ohio. The yard usually wont sell a complete car but will sell parts if you take them off. PM me and I can give you the name and number of the place.
